Development Intern
POSITION TITLE: Development Intern
REPORTS TO: Development Operations Manager
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
The development department is vital to Clearwater Marine Aquarium and its future. Many areas of learning will be covered under this internship including: donor relations, database management, grant writing, giving campaigns and special events.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Learn about Clearwater Marine Aquarium resident animals, programs, mission, research and other priorities
- Use independent judgment and discretion to identify, cultivate, nurture and maintain successful and productive relationships with board members, current and potential sponsors, individual donors, and volunteers through effective and articulate written and verbal communications
- Use independent judgment and discretion to create, organize, and successfully implement fundraising initiatives including, but not limited to: fundraising campaigns, annual gala/auction, events and community-driven fundraisers
- Define and execute timelines to support campaign and event execution and optimization and documentation of processes for efficiency
- Perform other duties or special projects as needed
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Currently enrolled in an upper level degree program in communications, non-profit management, marketing, marine biology, zoology, environmental conservation or other related field. May be up to 1 year post graduation to apply.
- This internship has a minimum number of hours in order to successfully complete the program
- 3 month internships 500 hours
- 4 month internship 650 hours
- 5 month internships 800 hours
- 6 month internship 950 hours
- This internship has a minimum number of hours in order to successfully complete the program
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Track record of excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi task
- Ability to work independently while functioning as a member of a team
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite of products including: Outlook, Excel, Word is preferred
- Experience in Adobe Creative Suite, illustrator and Photoshop or other similar design software a plus.
- Must have valid driver’s license & reliable transportation
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time and type – frequently
- Ability to communicate via telephone (mobile or landline) – frequently
- Ability to stand for long periods of time – frequently
- Ability to work in outdoor environment (heat, rain, etc.) – occasionally
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time both indoors and outdoors – occasionally
- Ability to work weekend and evening hours - occasionally
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. – occasionally
