REMOTE Game Writer - Narrative Designer Internship

As a Narrative Designer / Game Writer Intern, you’ll help shape the heart of these games—the story. You’ll collaborate with artists, programmers, and designers to craft immersive narratives, compelling characters, and player-driven storylines that make each game unforgettable. Whether it’s writing dialogue for a competitive esports mission or scripting a high-stakes training scenario, you’ll be building worlds that do more than entertain—they empower.

What You'll Do:

• Develop rich story arcs, dialogue, quests, and player scenarios
• Design game scripts that support simulation training, sports storytelling, and esports competitions
• Collaborate with design and dev teams to ensure narratives align with gameplay objectives
• Write immersive content for both serious games and fun, arcade-style experiences
• Create world lore, backstories, and dynamic characters that evolve with gameplay
• Research real-world occupations and themes to help translate them into game missions
• Adapt narrative techniques across multiple formats: visual novel, branching dialogue, mission briefings, etc.
• Use AI writing tools to assist with idea generation, character voice consistency, and rapid editing

You’ll Learn To:

• Combine narrative elements with interactive mechanics
• Balance exposition and action to maintain player engagement
• Write branching dialogue for decision-based gameplay
• Apply narrative to simulations and career training
• Incorporate accessibility and inclusivity into storylines
• Co-develop storyboards with illustrators and animators
• Pitch story concepts in a team environment

Requirements:

• Excellent writing and storytelling skills
• Interest in games, film, fiction, or interactive media
• Familiarity with story structure, game pacing, and dialogue
• Studying English, Creative Writing, Game Design, Journalism, or a related field
• Available to attend virtual meetings:
  • Mondays @ 9:00 AM MST
  • Wednesdays @ 10:00 AM MST
  • Fridays @ 8:00 AM MST
  • (Thursdays @ 9:00 AM MST for SkillBridge participants)

Bonus Skills (Not Required):

• Experience with Twine, Ink, Unity timelines, or narrative tools
• Voiceover scriptwriting
• Writing for podcasts, YouTube, or game mods
• Familiarity with esports leagues or educational content
