Choir Director

Job Title: Choir Director

Department: Instruction

Reports to: High School Principal

Classification: Exempt 


 

Summary 

The Choir Director is responsible for providing each student with varied opportunities to learn about and enjoy music experiences as a performer and/or a listener.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Set up the practice schedules. (If school is not in session due to safety or weather conditions, permission to practice must be granted by the principal or assistant principal.)
  2. Maintain security, issuance, collection and cleanliness of equipment and supplies which are part of the program.
  3. Maintain security, cleanliness and general good order of the equipment storage area.
  4. Maintain a budget in accordance with building and district regulations.
  5. Submit an inventory of equipment and supplies to the principal at the end of the year.
  6. Inform choir members of eligibility requirements and enforce the requirements during the activity season.
  7. Supervise choir members in the building before and after practice and concerts. (No student or group of students is permitted in the building unsupervised.)
  8. Appropriately monitor and secure facilities used by the director and choir.
  9. Supervise the choir traveling to, during, and returning from road contests.
  10. Ascertain the dates of the state rules meeting for the activity from the Director of Activities/Athletics and attend meetings as required.
  11. Complete and submit all transportation requests to the director of athletics/activities for final approval at least two weeks in advance of the first contest.
  12. Submit all paperwork required by AAA, building principal and district regulations and input information as required into Dragonfly.
  13. Understand and abide by all rules and regulations of AAA.
  14. Complete on-line Rules Review by AAA deadline. 
  15. Promote good citizenship with both students and parents at events. 
  16. Comply with all Riverview School Board of Education policies.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.


 

Supervisory Duties

Supervises students while in class, during practices, before during and after concerts and during events and travel


 

Qualifications

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Arkansas Teacher Certification

Education and Experience

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree


 

Skills and Abilities

Language

Read, analyze and interpret professional journals, board policy, administrative procedures and forms and governmental regulations and guidance written in English; complete forms, write reports and engage in written correspondence with parents; present information effectively and respond to questions; write clear and complete lesson plans

Computation

Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning 

Solve a variety of problems in many different situations and interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form; and apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students.

Technology

Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use; use district software for recording grades and finding student information; and utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district.


 

Physical Demands

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously, move around the classroom, and read handwritten or printed material. Sometimes the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising students. 


 

Interpersonal Skills

Maintain effective working relationships with students, co-workers, administrators and members of the community. 


 

Attendance

Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
