Senior Library Specialist (Peoria)
The UIC Library of the Health Sciences- Peoria is recruiting a Senior Library Specialist who works closely with the Regional Health Sciences Librarian & Information Services lead; to ensure consistent access to library resources and collections. They provide frontline customer service to students, staff, and faculty of the Colleges of Medicine and Nursing, UIC affiliated users, and members of the public. The Senior Library Specialist is responsible for coordinating Acquisitions and Technical Services, supervising Extra Help/Student Assistant employees, and contributing to Access to Resources services (Circulation and Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery). Additionally, this position is responsible for contributing to Information Services (reference, chat, and community engagement).
Work schedule is M-F 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Acquisitions and Technical Services; Access to Resources
- Manages the acquisition and processing of new materials for the LHS-P collections, performing Alma/Primo cataloging functions to ensure quality of catalog records and proper transfer of materials to other library locations and withdrawals.
- Performs repairs on books, as needed.
- Monitors and closely tracks the LHS-P budgets for collections acquisitions.
- Uses the automated circulation system to complete a variety of circulation transactions, including creating, maintaining, and updating patron accounts.
- Provides front-line coverage of the library through assigned shifts on the Circulation/Information Services Desk.
- Supports the operations of all LHS-P borrowing and lending activities, including ILDS, Docline, and OCLC
- Contributes to the development and revision of policies, procedures, and operations, as well as interprets and applies policies and makes exceptions when necessary.
- Maintains departmental documentation and develops regular written reports including statistical, quarterly, and annual reports for both internal and external audiences.
Information Services
- Provide assistance and guidance in the use of library collections, resources (print and online), and services through in-person, online, and virtual (Chat) ready reference.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of online educational content, including work with LibGuides and Blackboard or similar learning management system.
- Coordinate the planning and designing of year-round library displays on the Gallery Wall and periodically in the UICOMP Lobby Display Case.
- Contribute to the development and promotion of community engagement activities.
- Track and report Information Services statistics, and work with other library statistics as requested (AAHSL, ARL, annual reports, etc.).
Supervises Extra Help/Student Employees
- Interviews, hires, trains, supervises, evaluates, and directs the activities and projects of extra help and student assistant employees.
- Monitors and closely tracks the LHS-P budget for student hourly employees.
Other:
- Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
- Serves as a member of the library-wide Circulation and other position-related committees.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:
- work experience in a library or equivalent setting.
- college course work in any field as measured by the following conversion table:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
- A total of two (2) years (24 months) work experience in a library or equivalent setting performing progressively more responsible work consistent with the next lower level of this series.
Salary and Benefits
The minimum hourly rate for this position is $24.67.
