Public Health Division Southwest Region is comprised of eight counties and works to promote health and wellness, improve health outcomes, and assure safety net services for all people in New Mexico. Health Promotion works to improve the overall health of the community.
Why does the job exist?
The purpose of this position is to provide key non-medical case management services to enrolled clients, which is essential to the operations of the Community Collaborative Care (CCC) program and statewide goals. The HIV Non-Medical Case Manager is a member of the CCC program, working in a team to ensure access to medical and social services for persons living with HIV (PLWH) in the Southwest Region. This position is non-medical, so the focus is on enrollment in health insurance and other public benefits that ensure ongoing access to HIV medical care and pharmaceuticals. Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of certified list.
How does it get done?
This position will be responsible for:
- Supporting medical case managers in the CCC program team by providing support to clients in need of access to social services.
- Providing assistance to clients in enrolling in public services and benefits, with a focus on Medicaid Centennial Care coverage for persons who are income eligible.
- Assisting clients in accessing other financial and social services support including the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) federal housing program, emergency financial assistance and other programs.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has experience:
- Fluent in both English and Spanish.
- Providing excellent customer service.
- Multitasking and addressing issues and concerns while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Working with HIV clients.
- Collaborating and coordinating with other organizations within the community.
- Ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or Equivalent and two (2) years of experience in customer service, office administration, government assistance programs such as welfare, unemployment benefits, social security benefits, and/or public housing. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPPA) courses are required within thirty (30) days of employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Lifting up to 50 pounds may be required. Services are provided in a clinic with diverse population, many who do not speak the English language. Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm. Travel to satellite offices, meetings, training sessions, and special events with the occasional overnight stay is required.
