About HAND
Since 1996, the Homeless Action Network of Detroit (HAND) has served as the region’s leading resource on solutions to ending homelessness. We help to make ending homelessness a reality by securing funding, analyzing data, and driving change in our community. Known as the Continuum of Care (CoC) Lead, HAND secured over
$152 million dollars in federal funds to be administered by local agencies and coordinates the only comprehensive database on homelessness in Detroit.
Overview of Position
We are looking for a dynamic and studious intern who is eager to learn about our company by assisting various departments. You will be working closely with our team to conduct research, capture data, and attend meetings where you will be asked to take minutes. To be successful as an Intern, you should be willing to help with any tasks assigned by a supervisor. You will be involved in upcoming projects as well as assisting with current grant proposals and elections.
Intern Responsibilities
- Fulfilling tasks set out by supervisors from several departments.
- Attending meetings and taking meeting minutes.
- Creating fact sheets about community resources as needed.
- Performing qualitative and quantitative research at a supervisor's request.
- Applying research and homeless system level standards to each task as needed.
- Promote constructs and ideals like Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in innovative ways to hold members accountable within the CoC.
- Updating social media platforms and organizing accordingly.
- Creating training and capacity building marketing materials.
- Assist in creating policies, company standards and processes to further develop HAND and the CoC.
- Aid in helping the indigenous population(s) and bring awareness to public health concerns.
Intern Requirements
- Must be one of the following: enrolled at an accredited university, have experience working in the homeless systems community or graduate of an accredited university.
- Must be eager to learn and work with various departments in the company.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have high proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic knowledge of graphic design (Through sites like Canva or Venngage).
- Must have the ability to multitask.
- Must be goal oriented and exceptional organization skills.
- Must be able to prioritize time management.

Paid interns will have a pay rate of $20 per hour and we will be accepting unpaid interns applicants as well.
