Hiring: Figurative Sculptor for Statues & Monuments
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Figurative Sculptor to join our team in the creation of statues and public monuments. This is a hands-on role for a talented artist who excels in traditional sculpting techniques and wants to be part of meaningful, lasting work.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the creation of large- and small-scale figurative sculptures
- Sculpt forms and likenesses from life and photographic reference, primarily in clay
- Contribute to the portraiture process with anatomical accuracy and expressive detail
- Support mold making and casting preparation for bronze or other permanent media
- Collaborate with lead artist and fabricators throughout all phases of production
Requirements:
- Proficiency in clay modeling with a strong portfolio of figurative work
- Demonstrated skill in portraiture and human anatomy
- Experience with mold making and familiarity with studio casting processes
- Ability to take direction, work collaboratively, and meet project deadlines
- Applicants need to be comfortable working on their feet the whole day and capable of lift 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in public art, monument creation, or similar large-scale sculpture work
- Knowledge of power tools, woodworking, armature building, enlargement processes, or digital-to-traditional workflows
- BFA, MFA or commensurate experience
The studio is located in Grand Rapids, MI. This is a Full-Time position.
Compensation: starting $60,000-80,000/yr depending on experience.
