Spanish Teacher

The Spanish Teacher for Grades 6–12 at St. Paul City School (SPCS) will design and deliver a high-quality Spanish language curriculum that develops students' proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The teacher will cultivate students’ cultural understanding and prepare them to engage meaningfully in a multilingual, multicultural world. This role is vital to SPCS’s mission of providing equitable, rigorous, and inclusive education to all learners.

ResponsibilitiesCurriculum Design and Instruction

  • Plan and deliver engaging Spanish lessons aligned with Minnesota state standards and SPCS curricular goals.
  • Integrate the four core language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) into daily instruction.
  • Employ comprehensible input strategies to make Spanish accessible and naturally acquired by students.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English Learners (ELs) and students with special needs.
  • Incorporate interactive learning activities such as role-plays, discussions, storytelling, and games to maximize student engagement.

Cultural Integration

  • Embed cultural content into instruction to promote cross-cultural understanding and global awareness.
  • Use authentic resources (e.g., music, films, news articles) to expose students to the diversity of Spanish-speaking communities.

Technology Integration

  • Leverage educational technology and internet resources to enhance instruction, provide authentic language exposure, and support individualized learning.
  • Use digital platforms for collaboration, communication, and student creativity (e.g., Flipgrid, Duolingo Classroom, Padlet).

Assessment and Feedback

  • Develop and use a variety of formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress toward language proficiency.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback that supports student growth and confidence.

Classroom Environment

  • Establish a safe, positive, and culturally responsive classroom culture that encourages students to take risks and practice language skills.
  • Model and reinforce restorative practices to build relationships and foster a supportive learning community.

Collaboration and Professional Growth

  • Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Participate actively in professional development opportunities, staff meetings, and school community events.
  • Engage in reflective teaching practices and continuous improvement of instructional strategies.

QualificationsRequired

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field preferred but not required.
  • Valid Minnesota Teaching License in World Language and Culture: Spanish (or ability to obtain prior to start date).
  • Fluency in Spanish and strong proficiency in English.

Preferred

  • Experience teaching Spanish at the middle or high school level.
  • Familiarity with effective second language acquisition strategies, culturally responsive teaching, and technology integration in the classroom.Strong classroom management, differentiation, and student engagement skills.
  • Experience working in urban or linguistically diverse school environments.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $42,000.00 - $83,713.00 per year
