Social and Emotional Wellness Intern

The Social and Emotional Wellness Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the overall well-being of Club members and their families at the Boys & Girls Club of the Smoky Mountains. This field placement offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in youth development, mental health, social work, family engagement, and resource coordination.

Must be a social work student at the Bachelor's or Master's Level currently enrolled in an accredited university or college.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Program Assistance:

  • Assist in developing and implementing social and emotional learning (SEL) programs and activities.
  • Facilitate group activities and workshops that enhance self-esteem, empathy, and problem-solving skills.
  • Provide individual behavior support and small group programming to Club member

2. Family Engagement:

  • Help plan and host family engagement events and workshops.
  • Facilitate communication between staff, Club members, and families. Share information and resources related to child development and overall well-being.3. Resource Coordination:
  • Identify and connect families with community resources (e.g., mental health services, housing assistance).
  • Maintain a comprehensive resource database for staff and families.

4. Mental Health Support (Master's Level Only):

  • Assist in crisis interventions, including suicide screenings and behavioral observations.
  • Create safety plans and crisis intervention strategies, actively monitoring and documenting behavioral changes to provide ongoing support and follow-up.

5. Staff Support:

  • Assist in staff training on SEL, child development, and mental health topics.
  • Support staff in implementing SEL strategies and addressing members’ needs.

6. Data Collection and Analysis:

  • Collect and analyze data on program outcomes and participant progress.
  • Assist in preparing reports and presentations to showcase program impact.
  • Help gather data for grant writing, funding, and reporting.

7. Administrative Support:

  • Provide administrative assistance, including scheduling appointments, answering phones, and data entry.
  • Help with the preparation of program materials and supply management.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in social work.
  • Strong interest in youth development, mental health, and family engagement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Patience, empathy, and understanding of diverse backgrounds.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must pass a background check and fingerprint screening .
  • Must pass a drug test.
  • Must be able to provide three professional references.
  • Must be available at least 15 hours a week
  • Must be available at least two times a week between the hours of 2 PM to 6 PM (the specific days are flexible).
