Food and Event Services Specialist

Position Overview

Brookgreen Gardens, a National Historic Landmark just south of Myrtle Beach, is where art, nature, and history come together in one of the most beautiful and inspiring settings in the country. Our team is passionate about creating meaningful experiences through education, conservation, and cultural programming—and we’re looking for a dependable, high-energy Food and Event Services Specialist to join us.

This busy and fast-paced role supports both internal catering and a variety of public and private events—from group meetings and business functions to private parties, weddings, and large-scale fundraisers held during the day or evening. Responsibilities include food preparation and service, setup and breakdown for events, and onsite coordination with guests and vendors. Key Responsibilities

Food Service & Preparation

  • Prepare, package, and transport meals, baked goods, and refreshments for group programs, meetings, and internal events
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as slicers, ovens, warmers, and mixers
  • Maintain a clean and safe food prep environment in compliance with DHEC and ServSafe® standards
  • Provide food and beverage service during a wide range of events and fundraisers
  • Cashier at events using POS systems with accuracy and professionalism
  • Support inventory and supply tracking

Event & Fundraiser Support

  • Assist with setup, onsite coordination, and breakdown of public and private events (both daytime and evening)
  • Greet and tour prospective private event clients (e.g., weddings, rehearsals, business meetings)
  • Serve as onsite support in the absence of the Assistant Director of Private Events
  • Coordinate with team members to ensure smooth event operations

Pre-employment drug screening and background check required.

Valid South Carolina driver’s license required

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in food service, catering, or hospitality
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • ServSafe® certified or ability to obtain upon hire
  • Comfortable working a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, early mornings, and holidays

Preferred:

  • Experience with POS systems
  • Background in catering, event coordination, or working with high-end clientele
