Communications Coordinator (Part-Time)

Southport Presbyterian Church (SPC), located in the charming coastal community of Southport, NC, seeks a Communications Coordinator responsible for the development and execution of communication strategies that promote the church's mission, vision, and ministries to internal, community and external wider audiences.  Our ideal candidate will collaborate with the pastor, staff, and ministry leaders to ensure clear, consistent, and engaging messaging that contributes to church growth and connections. 

Reports to:Pastor/Head of Staff
Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning: 

  • Develop and implement communication plans and calendars.  
  • Collaborate with leadership to understand communication needs and develop effective strategies. 
  • Track digital communication data and conduct surveys to analyze effectiveness and develop future strategies. 
  • Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all ministries

 

Content Creation & Management: 

  • Utilize comprehensive, story-driven, mission focused messaging across various platforms (print, web, social media, app, etc.). 
  • Write, design, and edit engaging promotional digital website, slides, social media, emails, and video graphics.
  • In coordination with the pastor, staff, and ministry committees, develop signage, banners, posters, postcards, mailers, bulletins, and news releases.  
  • Manage website content and develop and implement creative social media strategies to enhance visibility and engagement. 
  • Collaborate with Office Manager to produce Mailchimp email/newsletter content and design, to ensure consistent branding and increase readership; Manage audience lists.
  • Ensure that photos are taken at applicable worship services and events for use in social media and news platforms: Manage digital photo library.

Online Presence & Engagement: 

  • Serve as Online Church Coordinator, engaging the online community, locally and beyond, to encourage participation, and advocate for their needs. Cultivate a significant social media presence with high levels of engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Video Tech Team on worship streaming strategies.
  •  Collaborate with the Senior Pastor and volunteers to oversee online interaction during worship services and events; Build online community relationships and resources.
  • Strategize with the Education Ministry for online Bible study groups.  Recruit and train online hosts. 
  • Manage social media and website accounts and track metrics for effectiveness.

External Communications & Media Relations: 

  • Oversee external media promotion, including writing and sending news releases and photos to relevant media. Maintain and expand media contact list.
  • Coordinate with local publications for print promotions.

 

Brand Management & Collaboration: 

  • Uphold church brand guidelines across all communications. 
  • Collaborate with staff, leaders, and ministries to ensure consistent messaging and branding.
  • Work with the office administrator and pastor to maintain and update brand guidelines.

Teamwork & Project Management: 

  • Manage multiple communication projects from start to finish, ensuring excellence in quality and timely submission.
  • Collaborate with the Video Team on online worship broadcast strategies. 
  • Ensure event photos are captured and shared.  Collaborate with ministries on community partners and social media integration. 
  • Work with the pastor and ministries to develop communication strategies for liturgical seasons.

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree (or pursuit of a degree) in Communications/Marketing or related field.
  • Exceptional creativity and innovative design skills.
  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva).
  • Strong knowledge of  WordPress website platform.
  • Experience with social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok).
  • Excellent written/oral communication and editing skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with diverse groups.
  • Familiar with video production and streaming software (e.g., vMix).

Hours: 20 hours per week with flexible remote/in-office schedule.
