API Developer

🔊 Sound of Earth (SOE) is seeking a skilled API Developer to design, build, and maintain APIs that power interactive web experiences and connect our platform with partner systems. This role involves developing secure, scalable RESTful or GraphQL APIs, integrating real-time web applications with backend services, and supporting multimedia content delivery. You’ll collaborate with designers and front-end developers to ensure seamless UX/UI functionality, manage database interactions (SQL/NoSQL), and document endpoints for internal and external use. Ideal candidates are fluent in Node.js, Python, or similar backend languages, experienced with authentication protocols (OAuth, JWT), and familiar with serverless or container-based architectures. A passion for creative technology, open data, and mission-driven digital storytelling is a strong plus.

🌎 The work is mostly remote, though we require IRL attendance at 1 kickoff meeting (June 1st) for those based in the Greater Los Angeles Area. Those applying as LA-based interns (for credit - not as volunteers) will also be required to participate in at least two Sound of Earth events during each semester.
