Communications and Public Outreach Assistant

The Central Texas Water Coalition is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and advocating for water resources in the Highland Lakes region which includes Austin and the surrounding areas. We work with policymakers, businesses, and the public to promote sustainable water management and conservation efforts, as well as advocate for new water supply for Central Texas.

Overview of Position

We are seeking a passionate and creative intern to support our marketing and social media efforts this summer. This internship is an excellent opportunity for students interested in environmental advocacy, digital marketing, and nonprofit communications. Interns will gain hands-on experience in content creation, social media strategy, and public outreach while making a real impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing and growing social media platforms 
  • Create engaging graphics, videos, and written content to promote water supply, conservation, and advocacy.
  • Help develop and execute a summer marketing campaign to increase awareness and community involvement.
  • Plan and coordinate events, workshops, and community outreach activities related to water conservation.
  • Assist in developing presentations, reports, and advocacy materials for stakeholders and public meetings.
  • Track and analyze social media performance to improve engagement.
  • Support email marketing, website updates, and press releases to amplify outreach efforts.
  • Collaborate with team members on fundraising and promotional activities.

 

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Marketing, Communications, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Passion for environmental advocacy and water conservation.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Experience with social media platforms, digital marketing tools (Canva, Adobe, etc.), and event planning.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced nonprofit setting.
  • Basic knowledge of presentation software (PowerPoint, Google Slides)
