Traffic Control Flagger (Internship)

Subject: Internship Opportunity for Traffic Control Flaggers – Now Accepting Applicants

Established Traffic Control, Inc. (ETC) is pleased to offer a unique internship opportunity for students interested in gaining hands-on experience in public safety, transportation logistics, and field operations. We are currently hiring Traffic Control Flaggers for part-time, full-time, or seasonal roles across Pennsylvania.

This paid internship offers students an opportunity to develop practical field skills in traffic management while learning the value of situational awareness, safety enforcement, communication, and operational coordination. No college degree is required to apply—making this opportunity open to students in various programs of study.

Position: Traffic Control Flagger (Internship)
Location: Field-based throughout Pennsylvania 
Pay: Starting at $15.00/hour
Type: Internship | Seasonal | Flexible Scheduling
Start Date: Rolling, based on student availability
Open to: Undergraduate students (all majors welcome); especially relevant to Civil Engineering, Criminal Justice, Construction Management, Public Safety, or Emergency Management students

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and maintain traffic control zones
  • Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic using approved flagging techniques
  • Communicate via radio with crew and supervisors
  • Operate or assist with company vehicles and safety equipment
  • Provide clear and courteous customer service to the public
  • Uphold safety standards and situational awareness at job sites

 

Preferred Technical & Additional Skills:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Google Sheets
  • GPS/navigation and mobile app usage (e.g., for timekeeping or routing)
  • Basic understanding of traffic safety or construction site layouts
  • Verbal communication skills and professional demeanor
  • Ability to document and report on-site activity

 

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Physically able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 60 lbs
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening
  • Smart phone and email access

Flagger Certification is preferred but not required—training is provided and paid for by ETC.
