
Strategist Intern
At Synthesis we push the boundaries of what’s possible with Open Data e.g. Google trends, Instagram, news media headlines, books or academic content. It’s a fast-paced, rapidly-changing environment vibrant with collaboration and creativity, at the intersection of data science, cultural analysis & brand consultancy (we call this HCDS: Human Centred Data Science!).
The role
Strategists at Synthesis deliver robust consumer insights driven by quantitative data analysis in a myriad of creative ways. You will be the culture expert, bringing a human perspective to numbers and statistics. You will support our relationships with key partners, showing a strong interest in their business and demonstrating a ‘nose’ for insights that are most useful and inspiring for them.
Specifically, you will support the team on:
1. A live trends/ culture/ innovation client project and
2. Synthesis annual thought leadership experience around entertainment and fandom.
You will be playing a key role in the research, generating hypotheses, designing data sets and analyzing open data intelligence with the guidance of our data scientists and strategists.
This summer internship is a 12-week stint that should be continuously taken between the months of May - September 2025. Start dates can be discussed.
- Candidates are expected to commit to at least 3 days per week and up to 3.5 days per week (not exceeding 30 hours per week)
- Candidates must be able to commute to the office location (Greenpoint, Brooklyn) for the internship and must be willing to work 1-2 days per week from the office.
- Our internship hourly rate is $25.
You’ll need
- Deep interest and passion for culture, an innate curiosity for discovering what’s new and unpacking the why behind macro,people and category shifts
- Strong analytical skills: you’ll be working closely with our data science team to input cultural and contextual knowledge as they optimize our algorithms and frameworks.
- Strong interpersonal skills: a flexible thinker who thrives in positive, collaborative environments, is able to work under pressure, and communicate effectively.
- Criticality: stretching thinking by adding and expanding, not criticizing without suggestions.
- Entrepreneurial mindset: constantly innovating ways to frame questions, source data, and build outputs to improve the overall Synthesis products and services.
Advantageous, but not required:
- Familiarity working for F&B, entertainment, and travel brands (agency/ client side)
- Familiarity with digital research, social listening, qualitative and quantitative research and statistical analysis
