What We Do
The department The Community Development Department guides the planning, development, and preservation of the City of Beverly Hills. The department is composed of six divisions (Administration, Community Preservation, Community Filming and Event Permits, Development Services, Planning, and Rent Stabilization) and provides staff support to three commissions (Architectural and Design Review, Cultural Heritage, and Planning). Community Development is responsible for the review and processing of all private development projects to ensure compliance with the General Plan, Zoning Ordinance, and Building Code including planning entitlements, zoning and plan review, permits, and inspections. The department preserves the community’s character and high quality of life through the code enforcement and historic preservation programs and administration of the Rent Stabilization Ordinance.
Who We Are Looking For
The City of Beverly Hills is seeking an outstanding graduate student in a field related to Engineering, Architecture, Planning, Public Policy, Public Sector Management, or a related field, for an Administrative Intern position in the Community Development Department to support the various programs. The ideal candidate should have general knowledge of municipal government practices, standard office equipment, and general knowledge of public meeting processes.

Please note: There are two levels of Administrative Intern. Compensation is based on student's current enrollment status.
- Administrative Intern - Undergraduate level: $17.04 - $20.71
- Administrative Intern - Graduate level: $20.13 -$24.47

Proof of Education
To be considered for the Administrative Intern position, you must attach proof of enrollment and course transcripts to your Government Jobs account at the time of application and before the closing date. If your education was completed outside of the United States, you will need to provide a copy of your Foreign Education Equivalency evaluation from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE).

Conviction History
As a finalist for a job, you will be contacted to schedule a fingerprinting appointment and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice(DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction (or arrest, in limited circumstances) conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you are a finalist. Disaster Service Workers
All City of Beverly Hills employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.

Major Duties
Under general supervision, the undergraduate student provides short-term staff support to all City departments, divisions, functions or special projects; assists in performing specific and miscellaneous duties as assigned and does related work as required. The position will expose students to career options within a Municipal Government environment.
Some of the core duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assists in analyzing data
- Assists in collecting data for department studies, functions, and/or projects.
- Assists in budget preparation and maintenance.
- Assists in administrative and clerical support activities as needed.
- Assists in preparation of Commission meetings and packets.
- Attends Commission meetings, City Council sessions.
- May assist in preparation of agenda statements, administrative regulations, procedural manuals, revision of rules and regulations, resolutions, press releases, etc. Interacts with the public in person or via telephone.
- Prepares reports and summaries.
- Uses a computer and maintains appropriate records and files.
- Performs basic research. May participate in a "Rotational Internship" assisting various departments or in a "Department - Assigned Internship".
- Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
- Current enrollment at an accredited College or University and in good standing is required for an Undergraduate Student Intern.
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university is required.
- Coursework in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Industrial Psychology or related field is desirable.
