Overview:
Major League Drone Racing (MLDR) is seeking detail-oriented and technically skilled individuals to join our Tech Ops Crew for upcoming live drone racing events. This crew plays a critical role in the functionality and safety of drone technology, ground systems, and operational equipment. Tech Ops supports pilots, ensures smooth technical flow during events, and assists in maintaining the high-performance standard of MLDR’s competitive infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
• Set up, test, and maintain drones, goggles, transmitters, antennas, and support equipment
• Assist pilots with last-minute technical needs, repairs, and firmware updates
• Perform signal checks and ensure smooth FPV video transmission to broadcast systems
• Coordinate with race control and timing operators to ensure sync and functionality
• Troubleshoot RF interference, power issues, and system bugs on-site under pressure
• Ensure all tech systems are properly charged, organized, and tracked before and after races
• Monitor frequency assignments and video channels to prevent overlap or interference
• Maintain inventory of tools, cables, batteries, and spare drone parts
• Support technical needs during load-in, live show, and breakdown
• Work closely with Broadcast, Race Control, and Pilot teams to maintain a seamless flow
Requirements:
• Basic knowledge of FPV systems, drones, and RC components (hands-on experience preferred)
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills under live event pressure
• Ability to work on your feet for long hours in a fast-paced environment
• Comfort with wiring, soldering, firmware flashing, and basic tech repair
• Team player with good communication skills
• Ability to travel for events and work evenings/weekends as needed
Preferred Skills:
• Experience in drone racing (as a pilot or crew)
• Understanding of radio frequencies, VTX systems, and digital FPV tech
• Familiarity with BetaFlight, ExpressLRS, DJI FPV, or similar systems
• Experience in esports, live events, or broadcast tech is a plus
Compensation:
• $250–$400/day (depending on experience)
• Meals and travel coverage provided for out-of-town events
• Opportunities for long-term and repeat contract work
