Communications Intern (Fall 2025)

Children's Law Center is seeking candidates for the 2025 Fall term.  This position is available to candidates as a hybrid role. Hybrid roles have some expectation of work in-person at Children's Law Center's office in Washington, DC. The deadline to apply is Friday, June 27th, 2025.

Program Description

Children’s Law Center (CLC) hosts a comprehensive, hands-on internship program. Law clerk and intern positions are available during spring, summer and fall semesters. Law clerk applicants must be current law students or recent law school graduates. All positions are unpaid and can be taken for credit. Hours are flexible. Generally, spring openings are posted in October, summer positions are posted in November and fall openings are posted in May.

Children’s Law Center’s Communications team oversees the organization’s communications priorities. We utilize a variety of marketing and communications activities, including media, social media, digital communications, print collateral and more. The Communications team plays a key role in Children’s Law Center’s efforts to raise funds that ensure we can support thousands of kids and families across the District each year.  We also assist legal teams by sharing client-centered stories, create materials to help with client outreach or pro bono recruitment efforts and work to advance policy goals that benefit DC kids and families.

Position Summary

The Communications Intern duties may include, but are not limited to: Story writing (such as: participating in client interviews and drafting stories, reviewing/editing stories, and consolidating stories for our organization storybank); digital outreach (such as: assisting in developing social media content for Children’s Law Center channels, conducting social media influencer research, helping maintain and updating website, conducting Google Analytics analyses and assisting in preparing Constant Contact email newsletter outreach); media relations/public relations (such as: preparing resources and background materials including research and drafting press-related correspondence, participating in brainstorming to develop creative angles to leverage in media outreach and PR campaigns, providing thorough debriefing of PR activities); and research/reporting (such as: monitoring and reporting on online activities of relevant organizations, reporting on the performance of social media platforms for communications team, and attending relevant events such as coalition meetings or DC Council hearings/roundtables). This position will also assist with branding and printing of materials for the move to a new office in early November (to be located two blocks from current office). 

Applicants must be a current or former student or have relevant work experience in the areas of writing (e.g., fine arts, English, etc.), communications, journalism, marketing or public relations. Hours are flexible but require a minimum of 10 hours per week minimum during the fall semester. At least 1 year of higher education or relevant experience preferred.

Hybrid Working Conditions

Children’s Law Center is currently operating on a hybrid work schedule.  Employees are required to work in-person from Children’s Law Center’s office a minimum of two days per week.  At least one of these days must be either Tuesday or Wednesday.  The hybrid work schedule is subject to change based on organizational needs and/or best practices for health and safety.  Hybrid work expectations may vary depending upon role responsibilities.
