Job Title: Summer Coding Camp Instructor/Co-Instructor

Mission and Vision: Urban Coders Guild provides middle and high school students from historically underserved and underrepresented communities with comprehensive STEM education opportunities, including web and mobile app development, cybersecurity, game development, and tech entrepreneurship. Our mission is to build a diverse, inclusive tech ecosystem and provide young people with multiple pathways to success in technology.

 

Job Description:

Urban Coders Guild seeks passionate and dynamic individuals to serve as instructors and co-instructors for our summer coding camps. Courses may include:

  • Intro to Web Development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Intro to Unity Game Development
  • Fundamentals of Cybersecurity
  • Intro to iOS Mobile App Development
  • Intro to Python

Instructors will create an engaging, inclusive classroom environment where students feel confident exploring new technologies and developing skills for future success in STEM.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Delivery: Lead or co-lead structured coding lessons, clearly explaining coding concepts and demonstrating programming tasks.
  • Student Mentorship: Provide guidance, support, and constructive feedback to students, encouraging their growth, confidence, and creativity.
  • Lesson Planning: Prepare and adapt lesson plans, curriculum materials, and educational resources tailored to students' learning needs and interests.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a positive, respectful learning environment conducive to student engagement and active participation.
  • Feedback and Assessment: Regularly assess student progress, collect feedback, and adapt teaching strategies to maximize learning outcomes.
  • Event and Workshop Support: Collaborate with staff and volunteers to support special tech events and showcase student projects.
     

Qualifications:

  • Strong foundational knowledge and proficiency in one or more of the following: Web Development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), Unity Game Development, Cybersecurity, iOS Mobile App Development, Python.
  • Prior teaching, tutoring, or mentorship experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusivity, and providing quality STEM education to underserved communities.
  • Previous participation in Urban Coders Guild programs or familiarity with our mission is preferred but not required.

Working Conditions:

  • Environment: Classroom or computer lab settings, fully equipped for technology-based instruction.
  • Schedule: Part-time with flexible hours, including potential evenings or weekends to accommodate program schedules.
  • Physical Demands: Occasional standing for extended periods and light physical activity involved in setting up technology equipment.
  • Technology Use: Regular use of coding software, instructional technology, and related devices.
  • Mentorship and Team Collaboration: Ongoing support and guidance provided by experienced staff to facilitate professional growth.
  • Safety and Wellbeing: Commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive environment adhering to all educational regulations and safety guidelines.
