Communications Director

Passionate About Purpose? Bring Your Voice to The Steinman Foundation. The Steinman Foundation is looking for a Communications Director, who will serve as a key resource shared across the three organizations, working to design, implement, and evaluate effective communications strategies. This role requires someone who can seamlessly balance the needs of multiple organizations, adapt messaging to varied audiences (internal and external), and manage multiple projects simultaneously.  The ideal candidate will be a creative storyteller, a strategic thinker, and an organized project manager who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. The Communications Director will work closely with each organization’s leadership teams and staff to amplify their voices, elevate their profiles, and strengthen their collective impact.  If you bring experience from the nonprofit or foundation world, we’d love to explore how we can make a difference together.

The Steinman Foundation

We are three distinct yet collaborative organizations—The Steinman Foundation, Lancaster County STEM Alliance, and Little Conestoga Creek Foundation—each committed to making a meaningful impact in our respective focus areas. Together, we seek a talented Communications Specialist to help amplify our collective missions, build brand awareness, and foster meaningful engagement with our audiences.


 

Our offices are within walking distance of Starbucks, Lancaster Central Market, Southern Market and many other small shops and restaurants. Free parking will be provided in the Steinman Park Garage. 


 

Communications Director Essential Job Functions (Full Description):

  • Develop and execute strategic communications plans that align with the goals of each organization or project.
  • Create compelling content for websites, newsletters, social media, press releases, and other communications channels.
  • Maintain and update websites for The Steinman Foundation, Lancaster County STEM Alliance and Blue Green Connector.
  • Drive social media strategy for all platforms, and oversee implementation, administration, and content creation across platforms, utilizing analytics to grow social media and online presence.
  • Collaborate with leadership teams and program staff to identify and share impactful stories that demonstrate the impact of each organization’s work.
  • Serve as a liaison to external vendors, such as graphic designers, writers, and media outlets, ensuring high-quality and timely deliverables.
  • Represents each organization in public settings with confidence and professionalism.
  • Maintains professional communication with advisory and foundation boards, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Monitor and analyze communications metrics to assess the effectiveness of campaigns and identify areas for improvement.
  • Maintain brand consistency and voice across all platforms while tailoring messages to the unique identity of each organization.
  • Stay informed of industry trends, emerging platforms, and best practices to recommend innovative approaches to communications.
  • Event planning and promotion

Requirements

 

What are we looking for? 

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience in communications, public relations, or related fields, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven ability to create and execute communications strategies that span multiple organizations or initiatives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to craft messages for diverse audiences and platforms.
  • Experience working with media outlets, journalists, and influencers.
  • Multimedia capabilities such as skills or experience in photography and photo editing, graphic design, video production and general asset creation are a plus.
  • Gathers, evaluates and synthesizes information and can present information clearly.
  • Builds and sustains partnerships through effective communication.
  • Engages stakeholders, partners, and community residents to identify mutual interests and translate input into actionable outcomes.
  • Delivers compelling presentations and listens effectively to others (internally and externally).
  • Solid understanding of social media platforms, digital marketing, and content management systems.
  • Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership abilities, with experience managing a communications team and collaborating across departments.
  • A deep commitment to the missions of The Steinman Foundation, Lancaster County STEM Alliance, and Little Conestoga Creek Foundation, and an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in the nonprofit sector.
  • Ability to navigate a complex organizational landscape and communicate effectively across diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience with crisis communications and reputation management is a plus.
