Graphic Designer will coordinate graphic projects and perform a variety of graphic design and artwork.  Assist departments in graphic presentation approach, style, production factors, layout, and printing. Provide graphic design services, to include brochures, flyers, posters, displays, newsletters, invitations, and pamphlets. Duplicate materials in-house or confer with printers regarding stock, colors, and other details. Obtain price quotes and delivery information from outside printing and graphic vendors.   

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.          Design projects and work with staff to ensure finished materials meet requirements.  Design and create brochures, flyers, newsletters, and other publicity materials via computer; create custom graphics. Assist web staff with web content in both internal and external web pages. 
2.          Develop marketing materials, posters, and displays, and coordinate their development. Determine size and arrangement of materials and copies based upon available space, layout principles and aesthetic concepts. 
3.          Confer with departments regarding project budget, background information, objectives, presentation approaches styles, printers, techniques and other production factors.  Develop written and visual materials, edit layouts using desktop publishing techniques and similar technology.  Serve as a consultant to departments for graphic projects. 
4.          Duplicate materials in-house or confer with printers regarding stock, colors and other details. Obtain price quotes and delivery information from outside printing and graphic vendors; coordinate and monitor project. 
5.         Prepare, enhance and distribute information and materials for use in public presentations and for distribution. 
6.         May work with other than print media such as; slides, color transparencies, and videos to produce desired materials. 
7.         Utilize word processing and publishing techniques to produce internal reports, and maintain logs and records of work performed. 
8.         Train staff in new technologies and procedures in illustration production. 
9.         Order and maintain graphic art supplies and develop the departmental graphic art budget. 
10.       Assist Public Information Director and Public Information Specialists in day to day media requests. 
11.       Participates and represents the department, in supporting the County's Pathway To Excellence (PTE) initiative. Aids in Continuous Improvements efforts related to printing and graphic processes and customer service practices. 
12.        Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field, and one (1) year of related work experience in conventional and computerized graphic design, desktop publishing, or graphic presentation. Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:

1.          Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
2.          Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
3.          Employee must have a valid New Mexico driver’s license by employment date and maintain a valid NM driver’s license while employed in this position. 
4.          Must be able to work flexible hours.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1.          All essential duties are performed indoors.
2.          Duties are performed in a temperature controlled environment.
3.          Duties are performed on an even surface, which may be carpeted or tile.  Working surface is typically dry.
4.          Worker often works alone with or without directions from supervisor.
5.          Worker is exposed to natural weather conditions while doing remote locations.

EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS

1.          Equipment typically used in the performance of office duties include telephone, computer terminal, computer printer, graphic art tools, computer keyboard, typewriter, photocopy machine, fax machine and calculator.
2.          Materials and products handled in the course of performing essential duties include files, forms, reports, various other paperwork, display boards, projectors, cameras, and a wide variety of basic office supplies.
