
Social Media Intern
Next Step is seeking a motivated, self-sufficient Social Media Intern to support our communications strategy and help elevate our digital presence. This role is ideal for a creative thinker who is passionate about storytelling, community engagement, and making a difference in the lives of young people living with serious chronic illnesses.
The Social Media Intern will help advance the communication goals of the development and program teams.

What We Are Looking For
- Social Media Intern will have experience using the following social media platforms:
- TikTok
- YouTube
- Bluesky
- A self-starter with strong writing and communication skills.
- Creative, organized, and eager to learn.
- Experience with content creation tools.
Overall Goals of Position
- Develop and schedule engaging content across social media platforms to support organizational goals.
- Create best practices strategy for utilizing social media trends.
- Help grow brand awareness and promote the mission, values, and impact of the Next Step organization.
- Help recruit young people who are eligible for our community, music and mentorship programs.
- Collaborate with Development team on fundraising campaigns that build and maintain meaningful connections with our donor community.
- Update YouTube channel and upload existing Next Step videos.
- Professional Growth Project based on professional interests of the intern and organization communication goals.
Key Responsibilities of Social Media Intern
- Check in with Communications Coordinator every Monday and Thursday to discuss communication schedule and goals.
- Help Next Step execute communication calendar provided by Communication Coordinator.
- Attend weekly staff meeting on Monday to report updates on responsibilities.
- Offer new communications strategies to expand reach on social media.
- Utilize Canva and Lumen5 graphic software to create new marketing assets.
- Determine professional growth project.
- Utilize Microsoft 365 software to organize projects and communication with Next Step staff.
- Track and report on performance metrics to guide future strategy and content planning.
Next Step Staff Support
The Next Step Communication Coordinator will be the lead contact and support for Social Media Intern.
This includes the following responsibilities:
- Provide weekly and monthly social media communication calendar
- Create a new marketing folder in SharePoint that intern can access for marketing materials to post on social media.
- Manage communication between Social Media Intern and the Program and Development teams.
- Schedule two weekly check-in meetings (Monday and Thursday)
- Create a daily “office hours” schedule between Communications Coordinator and Social Media Intern for quick chat or email check-in’s regarding messaging plan for week.
- Support with Professional Growth project.
Hours
2-2.5 hours per day (Hybrid)
Monday through Friday
