Costume Designer
Stagedoor Manor is seeking Costume Designers to join our team for the 2025 Summer Season.
Stagedoor Manor is a leading Theater Summer Camp, recognized as the premier training destination for young performers aged 10 to 18 from around the globe. Nestled in the picturesque Catskill Mountains of New York, Stagedoor Manor occupies a former summer resort. For more than 49 years, enthusiastic young talents have gathered here to enhance their skills and discover more about themselves while forging lasting friendships. Our main goal is to cultivate a supportive summer environment where young individuals can learn and flourish through the joy of theater.
In just 10 weeks, our incredible Design and Technical team brings to life 42 beautifully crafted productions across 8 fantastic theatre spaces in a summer stock setting. We pour our hearts into creating the theatrical magic that makes Stagedoor feel like home for so many wonderful souls.
Our incredible staff works together as a cohesive team to guarantee that each of our 14 productions operates seamlessly every session. We genuinely appreciate the diverse skills of our tech team, so although we value your main talents, we might also require your help in other areas. Whether it's sewing those final buttons, adding a touch of paint to our projects, or performing last-minute lighting checks, we all contribute to support one another in wrapping things up before opening night. Together, we ensure that everyone completes their tasks on time!
A summer at Stagedoor will not only give you 6 credits, it will broaden your theatre network, linking you with skilled professionals from across the USA and beyond. This experience will strengthen your resume, enrich your portfolio, and foster your artistic growth in a lively and encouraging atmosphere.
As a Costume Designer, you will design costumes for six shows this summer, collaborating closely with a team to support the development of all 42 productions we offer each season. You'll create costume ideas and designs, often inspired by scripts, character studies, and the director's vision. Conduct research on historical periods, styles, and cultures to guide your design decisions. Produce initial sketches and mood boards to showcase and communicate your costume ideas. Choose fabrics, colors, and accessories that enhance the production's overall appearance and atmosphere. Work together with the Costume Team Leader and the Costume Builder to bring your designs too fruition. Our extensive costume collection will serve as a resource for your designs. As a team, you will determine what should be crafted from scratch and what can be adapted from existing pieces and pulled from stock.
