*Internship* Audience Engagement: Content Creator
Summary
The Audience Engagement Intern (AEI) supports all members of the Audience Engagement Team and plays an active role in building Nevada Public Radio’s digital presence. This position requires a blend of technical ability, creative thinking, and strong writing skills. The AEI will assist in reaching and engaging audiences across digital platforms, helping to grow and strengthen NVPR’s online community.
Ideal candidates have a curious mindset, an eye for engaging content, and a passion for public media.
This role requires the ability to make sound editorial judgments, work efficiently under deadlines, and contribute creatively in a collaborative environment. The AEI reports directly to the Director of Audience Engagement.
Duties and Essential Job Functions May Include:
- Assist Nevada Public Radio sites with CMS Admin, editing landing pages, forms, articles, and other online content.
- Assist with e-mail marketing.
- Assist Nevada Public Radio’s social media feeds, help to create content for audience engagement.
- Assist in gathering digital metrics reporting using Google Analytics and other analytics platforms.
- Practices strict standards of journalistic integrity and ethics. This includes overseeing comments written on NVPR webpages in response to posted stories.
- Participates in fundraising activities as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Building Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Interest or aptitude in social media, creative art, writing, editing, photo selection, and web-publishing – all within a journalistic mind frame.
- Interest or aptitude in learning basic search-engine optimization.
- Develop ability to update and maintain fresh Nevada Public Radio content for social media.
- Ability to write effective, clear, and creative copy to communicate the style and standards of Nevada Public Radio.
- Interest or aptitude in learning how to handle complex projects simultaneously under stringent timeframes and changing priorities/conditions.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure.
- Interest or aptitude in learning the unique role of public radio in the local community and the characteristics of public radio programming, content and style.
- Ability to maintain constructive relationships, demonstrate respect for everyone and have experience working with diverse populations.
- Ability to make consistent decisions to resolve problems.
- Must demonstrate active listening and critical thinking skills; must speak clearly and demonstrate the ability to convey information effectively.
Qualifications:
- Experience, interest, or aptitude in social media, digital media and news production.
- Experience, interest, or aptitude with Marketing and/or Media Studies, Web Design, email marketing.
- Experience, interest, or aptitude working with CRMs is a plus.
- Experience, interest, or aptitude creating digital content is a plus.
- Knowledge of Standard English grammar, spelling and AP Style.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office environment (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) and standard office equipment.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in web design/online marketing/media/communications/journalism or equivalent. Knowledge of public radio style, standards, and mission.
- Experience with CMSs. Grove, Drupal, WordPress preferred.
- Experience with Chrome Dev Tools.
- Experience with Campaign Monitor.
- Experience with web hosting platforms. Amazon AWS and GoDaddy preferred.
- Previous public radio, marketing, or web design background.
Compensation
$16.00 per hour; part-time, temporary internship, non-exempt position.
- Expected hours – up to 20 hours per week.
FLSA Classification – Non-exempt; temporary, part-time, hourly
Physical Requirements
Ability to type, reach, walk, bend, see and sit for up to (10) hours
