About Us
The Public Democracy Project exists to deliver impactful outcomes and sustainable solutions that push us closer to more equitable and just systems and policies. We are an all remote team that works primarily, but not exclusively, in areas of civic engagement, health equity, economic justice, environmental stewardship, faith-based organizing, and diversity in AI. Public Democracy (PD) is made up of two distinct organizations, a public benefit corporation and a 501c3 non-profit, that work in concert to achieve mutual goals.
Internship Tracks
We offer three internship opportunities for Summer 2025. Please indicate your preferred track in your application subject line.
1. Communications Intern
We're seeking a versatile Communications Intern who will support compelling content strategies across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate is a creative problem-solver who can blend traditional communication skills with emerging technologies to deliver impactful results.
Key Responsibilities
-Creating dynamic, SEO optimized content for websites
-Drafting social media content for a variety of platforms and audiences
-Creating Google Search ads and display ads
-AI prompt engineering
-Copywriting email campaigns
-Researching policies and breaking news
We're looking for someone who:
-Has an interest in nonprofit and advocacy work
-Is a strong writer
-Is detail oriented and able to accomplish tasks in timely manner
-Is a self-starter ready to roll up their sleeves
-Has video editing skills
This internship is perfect for someone who is impact-oriented and wants hands-on experience in advocacy and nonprofit communications.
2. AI & Digital Marketing Intern
We're looking for a sharp, curious, and self-motivated intern to join our team this summer to support a wide range of projects at the intersection of digital marketing, automation, and AI. This is a hands-on opportunity to help shape cutting-edge campaigns and systems while gaining experience with real-world tools and emerging technologies.
Key Responsibilities
-Identifying high-impact, trending topics and building targeted Google Ads campaigns around them
-Monitor performance through analytics, identify what's working, and suggest optimizations
-Development of automation systems that drive our social media feeds and internal workflows
-Build and test AI-powered tools, including user-facing AI systems, avatars, voice-to-text tools, and more.
We're looking for someone who is:
-A fast learner with a natural curiosity for emerging tech
-Comfortable solving problems independently
-Interested in AI, automation, and digital media
-Excited to build, test, and iterate
Tools You'll Use:
-Google Ads + Analytics
-Zapier
-OpenAI & other LLMs
-n8n
-Voice-to-text & avatar AI tools
-Social media automation platforms
This internship is perfect for someone who wants to grow quickly in a creative, fast-paced environment while working on real-world projects that blend marketing, AI, and automation.
3. Data Science & LLM Intern
We apply language technologies to real-world problems that help people and communities. We're looking for someone passionate about creating technology with meaningful impact to join our team.
What You'll Do:
-Apply language models to practical social media challenges
-Identify opportunities where NLP can address community needs
-Build data pipelines for social conversation analysis
-Create visualizations that communicate complex patterns
-Learn how to bridge research and real-world application
What You'll Need:
-Python programming skills
-Basic Git knowledge
-Curiosity about technology's real-world impact
-Clear communication skills
-Interest in social impact of AI
-Data analysis experience
-Visualization skills
-JavaScript and front-end knowledge

This internship is completely remote. The ideal candidate will be able to devote 40 hours per week to the internship. Successful completion of the internship or fellowship receives a stipend of $2,500 paid throughout the internship term.
