Project Intern
OVERVIEW:
Canopy Team is a women-led, multi-disciplinary practice at the intersection of sports, design, and project management. We create memorable places that transcend sports to build community while bringing our operations and strategy expertise to our clients’ events and experiences. We work with organizations, primarily in the sports & entertainment industry, to design and build their homes for training, fans, and competition. We oversee all aspects of the built environment starting with the vision, design, and construction all the way through Opening Day and operations.
Our energetic, entrepreneurial team is seeking an organized, highly motivated individual to join our growing team as a project intern. The ideal candidate for this role will be enthusiastic about sports as a community builder and will have an interest in a career in architecture, design, real estate development, or project management, as well as a desire to learn from a growing team of sports industry veterans.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The internship program at Canopy Team provides an educational experience for recent college graduates and students currently enrolled in a graduate program, who are looking to gain practical knowledge and experience in the sports, architecture, urban planning and development, and/or construction industries. Interns would be supporting Canopy Team members on projects of various scales in cities across the United States. Throughout the duration of the internship term, each intern will be responsible for researching and developing presentation materials on a sports venue design or development project (topic to be determined with their manager), that will be presented to Canopy Team leadership and project managers during the final week of the internship term. Interns will need to report to Canopy Team’s Baltimore office on a weekly basis for regular check-ins with their manager and project team members.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Research team, city, and facility histories to evaluate and generate ideas for displays, artwork, signage, and other graphic elements of sport-venue projects
- Maintain knowledge of ballpark, stadium, venue, and other public gather space trends and best practices, and work with project team on incorporating the knowledge in carryout of all projects
- Support project team on preparing and modifying presentation documents including mockups, renderings, PowerPoint presentations and plans that relate to design work and construction
- Work with project team on coordinating fabrication, procurement, and installation of artwork, exhibits, signage, furniture, and other fixtures and equipment as part of larger construction projects
- Support the marketing team on developing stories/content for the company website, social media channels, and other marketing/PR materials
- Research trends and best practices in areas of interest for Canopy to assist the team with current projects and business development opportunities
- Perform other tasks as the need arises by the team
- Travel may be required
BASIC REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be currently enrolled in/recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited institution
- Ability to physically be in our Baltimore, MD office weekly
- Interest in a career in sports, architecture, design, development, or project management
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of relevant software including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook; Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign preferred.
