Summer Internship at Public Health Non for Profit (IPHS)

The Institute for Population Health Sciences is looking for interns for Summer Semester 2025 who are interested in public health, research and/or community engagement.

 

This position will be mostly remote with relatively flexible hours. Internship will be held between Monday, June 2 through Friday August 29th. Students who have completed at least two years of college with an interest in these areas are welcome to apply. Graduate students are encouraged to apply, especially those interested developing research and grant writing skills for their own careers. 

 

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until May 4th.

 

Interns will be working 30-35 hours a week within one or more of the areas below based on interest and prior expertise:

  • Grant writing and development for both private & government funders including seeking
  • Developing social media posts and schedules for IPHS, including public facing communication about pressing population health issues
  • Creation of information materials on common health questions such as cancer screening, nutrition, mental health, cardiometabolic condition, violence prevention, social determinants of health, and etc for public distribution
  • Connecting with local Chicago and IL community programs
  • Assistance with public health database development and data cleaning

Ideal candidates should have:

  • Experiences in health equity, community development, and other topics within population health and health care
  • Core prior courses in quantitative and qualitative research methodology
  • Prior experiences in scientific publication, research reports and scientific presentations
  • Prior experiences in grant writing (federal, state and foundation grants)
  • Skilled social media and marketing experiences to promote organizational mission
  • Entrepreneurial in spirit, interested in helping expand reach of a new non for profit organization
  • Strong organizational skills to provide administrative support, attention to granular details in tasks and empathetic communicators

What interns can gain from IPHS:

  • Mentorship and data available for students interested in publishing academic abstracts or manuscripts
  • Opportunities to learn more about public health work including hot topics in health, different career pathways for research and health sciences, and principles of community engagement
  • Ability to get ‘hands on’ experience and work directly with President and board members during the initial development years and more.

Interns will receive a stipend of $2,000 on the satisfactory completion on this program. Interns using this program to satisfy school credit are not eligible for this stipend.
