
Gallery Registrar Intern

OCHI is a contemporary art gallery that represents a diverse roster of interdisciplinary artists, programming seamlessly between locations in Sun Valley, Idaho and Los Angeles, California. OCHI supports and contextualizes artists with experimental and emerging practices as they investigate the conceptual and material boundaries of art. OCHI is comprised of two spaces: the original gallery that has been in the family in Idaho since the 1970s, and OCHI, Los Angeles, which was founded in the Arlington Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles in 2015.

Position Overview
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented, organized, and proactive Registrar Intern to assist our gallery team in managing artwork documentation, inventory, and logistics. This internship offers valuable hands-on experience in the operations of an art gallery, with a focus on registration, collection management, and exhibition preparation.
Primary Responsibility
- The Registrar Intern will primarily work on a specific, ongoing project integrating artist inventories into the gallery’s new systems. A basic knowledge of Google Sheets and Excel are required. You will learn the gallery management software, ArtLogic.
Additional Responsibilities Include:
- Help maintain and update artwork records, including consignments, loans, work releases, certificates of authenticity, and condition reports, provenance, condition reports, and location tracking.
- Work with the Exhibition Manager and Gallery Director to maintain the inventory management system and physical inventory.
- Assist in coordinating shipping for gallery and offsite exhibitions as well as art fairs.
- Research and improve workflows related to inventory management.
- File, print labels, and perform general organizing tasks.
- Light packing and unpacking of artworks alone (within reason) and with a team.
- Opportunity for crossover into installation and preparator work for those interested in learning these skills.
- Participate in gallery installations, openings, and other special events as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Art History, Museum Studies, Arts Administration, or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Team player with the ability to collaborate in a fast-paced environment.
- Can get things done efficiently and accurately.
- Flexible schedule, with a minimum commitment of at least one day per week.
- Open to feedback and eager to learn.
- Ability to handle artwork with care and follow handling procedures.
- Interest in contemporary art and gallery operations.
- A working knowledge of Monday.com is a plus, but not required.
- A working knowledge of google sheets and/or Excel is required.
