Health & Wellness Intern

The Health & Wellness Intern works closely with the Health and Wellness Team to promote dairy as part of a healthy diet to youth by planning, implementing and evaluating nutrition education programs in support of school meals, food security, STEM education, and sports nutrition to school districts across the state of Michigan. The intern will support and participate at in-person events and additional projects related to nutrition outreach/nutrition affairs and general consumers as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Post-bachelor's degree and/or 1 year of master's level Public Health, Nutrition or related education preferred
  • Active enrollment in college or university, in pursuit of Public Health, Nutrition or related master’s degree preferred
  • Availability of 30 hours per week

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating nutrition education programs, materials, and resources, as well as outreach and marketing programs, with a primary focus on youth in the K-12 school audience and a secondary focus of health care professionals/nutrition affairs through continuing education and attendance at various conferences, seminars, and more as necessary.
  • Attend UDIM, partner, and consumer promotional events, as needed, representing UDIM and Michigan’s Dairy Farm Families, complying with UDIM messages, policies, and image; may require limited evening, weekend, and overnight travel as deemed necessary.
  • Completes all administrative duties, such as hour & mileage tracking, reporting results of program reach, and more as assigned according to company policy
  • Actively participates in brainstorming and project planning meetings, contributing ideas and innovative approaches to outreach during team meetings, and supports UDIM programming that coordinates with the Unified Marketing Plan.
  • Works primarily with UDIM’s Health & Wellness department with the opportunity to collaborate with Industry Outreach, Marketing & Communications, and Graphic Design departments

  • Communication outreach through small- and large-scale presentations, tabling, social media outreach, dairy promotion and nutrition education at events.
  • Learn the farm to table process for dairy with an opportunity to tour a Michigan dairy farm.
  • Participate in partner and health & wellness events related to school nutrition programs, sports nutrition programming, and consumer events.
  • Develop nutrition education and marketing materials and apply project management skills with a focus on school and nutrition security programs.
  • Work with leadership team members and Registered Dietitians serving school programming, sports nutrition, marketing/communications, and nutrition affairs.
  • Gain knowledge of School Nutrition Programs through training made available by state partners and organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
