Introduction to SAGE and SAGECare
The Organization | SAGE is the world’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQ+) older adults. Founded in 1978 and headquartered in New York City, SAGE is a national organization that offers supportive services and consumer resources for LGBTQ+ older adults and their caregivers, advocates for public policy changes that address the needs of LGBTQ+ older people, and provides cultural competency training for aging providers and LGBTQ+ organizations, largely through its National Resource Center on LGBTQ+ Aging and its social enterprise SAGECare. SAGECare | SAGECare (SAGECare.org/) is a growing B2B social enterprise nestled within SAGE. “Social enterprise” means that we generate sales revenue for SAGE while also advancing SAGE’s mission. As a leading LGBTQ+ aging cultural competency provider, SAGECare offers training programs and strategic guidance to a wide range of organizations that serve older adults. The opportunity
SAGECare seeks a spring and/or summer intern to support the work of our dynamic team. Reporting directly to the managing director, you will handle a variety of tasks that fuel SAGECare’s success while building your expertise in sales and marketing, training technologies, and customer services. You’ll have opportunities to conduct in-depth research, do a variety of writing, and enter / analyze data – all essential inputs for increasing SAGECare’s social impact and financial success. At the same time, you’ll be immersed in the overall mission of SAGE and the workings of a leading non-profit in the LGBTQ+ space.
Main responsibilities:
- Undertake research projects to help us understand SAGECare current and new markets, our customers, and the external environment including “competitive” landscape. Target markets include healthcare and hospitals, health insurance, and Life Plan communities.
- Support the team on content development, including for SAGECare training resources, website, blog, newsletter, and social media. Draft case studies for publication.
- Work with SAGECare team members to build out our business playbook, a home for key information about SAGECare’s strategy, operations, procedures, and best practices.
- Learn and use Salesforce, our Client Relationship Management (CRM) system, to enter data, do analytics, and create reports for the team’s use.
- Lead on projects assigned by the managing director of social enterprise, such as PPT pitch decks, presentations, research, and written thought leadership pieces.
- Other duties as determined by intern interests and team needs.
Desired qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess many or most of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes, and interests:
- Undergraduate student (rising junior, senior or Class of 2025 preferred) or enrolled graduate student
- Strong research and writing skills, with ability to synthesize information and produce clear, engaging copy
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work well independently and as part of a small, tight-knit team
- Commitment to LGBTQ+ services and advocacy as an ally or community member
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments and to adapt easily to changing priorities, while maintaining a high attention to detail
- Interest in purpose-driven (social impact) careers and strong alignment with SAGE’s mission and values
- Experience with, or interest in, working with Salesforce CRM system
Location: Remote with occasional in-office days at SAGE’s headquarters (305 Seventh Ave @ West 28th St) to be discussed.
Schedule: This is a part-time internship. Start date can be 4/14 through 6/1. Six-week Spring interns considered! The intern will develop a schedule in consultation with their manager and work 12-15 hours per week.
