Responsibilities

 

The Ringling Theater Intern will engage with and support theater staff with the Summer Circus Spectacular, a family friendly live circus performance in The Ringling’s Historic Asolo Theater. We present 2 shows per day, 5 days a week to capacity audiences in partnership with the Circus Arts Conservatory.

INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES

The Ringling Technical Theater Intern will assist with the following tasks:

  • Learn Art of Performance’s values and programmatic structure
  • Shadow Performance staff in work with key community partners to understand project workflow
  • Assist performance staff at artist and other community events
  • Undertake hand distribution of promotional materials as needed
  • Communicate with partners regarding logistics and outcomes for success
  • Take documentary photos and gather feedback from partners and other stakeholders

EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES

During their time as The Ringling’s Technical Theater Intern, the accepted candidate will learn the following:

  • Understand the role of a Performing Arts presenting organization in the local and national arts ecology
  • Articulate the qualities of organizational and community partnerships
  • Be able to define “outreach” and its nuances
  • Experiences a wide range of promotional strategies
  • Follow project calendar and keep track of project deliverables
  • Create concise correspondence with community partners that generates productive, ongoing workflow

ABOUT

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is the state art museum of Florida and consists of multiple venues and departments including art and circus museums, historic mansion, arboretum, rose garden, historic theater, archives, and art reference library – everything suited on a 66-acre campus overlooking Sarasota Bay.

The Ringling's Technical Theater internship runs from June 2 – July 25, 2025 with potential to extend to August 17, 2025 when The Ringling's Historic Asolo Theater concludes Summer Circus Spectacular 2025. The Ringling's summer internships combine practical, hands-on experience working on one or more projects while gaining exposure to all aspects of The Ringling’s operation including professional development and cultural enrichment activities.

Qualifications

 

Please note candidate must be able to start on June 2, 2025. 

  • High school diploma or GED and is currently active in obtaining a degree in higher education
  • Interest in the performing arts.  
  • Experience with or exposure to the performing arts as a student, pre-professional performer or theater employee
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn sound/light operation for theater, theater maintenance, stage management, box office and front of house management, and/or costume and set design. 
  • A valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain
    • A driver's permit cannot be accepted

Preferred Qualifications

 

Experience with:

  • Sound, lighting and video equipment
  • Theater front of house management

Considerations

 

Rate of Pay $15 per hour

Working Hours Up to 40 hours a week. Work schedule is based around performance schedule (between Mon - Sat, 8 hours a day). Please note this role requires a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.

  • This position is based in Sarasota, FL.
  • This is an OPS/Temporary position. 
  • This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check to include fingerprinting.
