Clean Transportation Policy Coordinator
The Ecology Center seeks a highly motivated person to join our dynamic Climate and Energy team. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator with solid research skills, and a demonstrated passion for addressing climate change and advancing the transition to clean and equitable transportation--including electric vehicles, cleaner fuels, increased public transit, and more walking and biking access. This role will involve researching, analyzing and communicating key policies to support this transition and other strategic objectives of the organization.

Founded in 1970, the Ecology Center works to develop innovative solutions for healthy people and a healthy planet. The Ecology Center is a leading advocacy organization in Michigan’s clean equitable energy revolution, which includes our Clean Transportation work. The Ecology Center has also been at the forefront of protecting communities from PFAS, lead exposure, air, water, & plastic pollution, among other environmental health concerns. The Ecology Center is the parent organization of Recycle Ann Arbor, founded in 1977, which works to build zero waste communities through convenient and innovative services. The Ecology Center has offices in Ann Arbor and Detroit. Heading into 2025 our organization is expanding our capacity and staffing and this is one of several positions for which we are currently hiring.
Location: Remote/Hybrid. Some in-person work is required at the Ecology Center’s office in Ann Arbor and for travel to meetings around Michigan.
Salary: $52,000 - $62,000, depending on experience.

Reports to: Climate and Energy Program Director and Policy Director
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct Research and Analysis
Perform research on Clean Transportation related policies, regulations, and market trends to stay ahead of upcoming strategies and technologies.
Analyze the impact of existing and proposed policies on the electric vehicle industry, including economic, environmental, and social implications. Gather and interpret quantitative and qualitative data related to EV policies and market conditions, and best practices for promoting electrification in an equitable and climate-friendly manner.
Analyze transportation policies and best practices to promote a mode-shift from driving, through improved access to public transit, ride share, micro mobility and other clean mobility options.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including community and environmental justice advocates, to identify policy needs and opportunities.
Draft clear and compelling reports, presentations, blog posts and other communications to educate about policy insights and solutions.
Prepare and present research findings with the staff team, board members, and external partners.
Support the creation of policy proposals and advocacy strategies to promote the adoption of electric vehicles and other clean mobility alternatives.
Other duties on behalf of the Ecology Center and Energy/Climate Team as assigned.
Stakeholder Engagement
Engage with government agencies, coalition partners, and other stakeholders to gather input and build relationships. May co-lead external coalition working groups.
Represent the organization at meetings, conferences, and workshops to discuss policy issues and research findings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Public Policy, Political Science, Economics, or Environmental Sustainability) or equivalent skills and experience.
- 1- 3 years of relevant experience in a relevant field or similar non-profit advocacy work.
- Experience in policy research and advocacy.
- Strong public speaking/presentation skills.
- Experience with data analysis.
- Knowledge of transportation, electric vehicle, and energy issues.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate successfully with individuals and teams at all levels.
