Social Media Marketing Intern

Student Affairs Marketing is looking for social media marketing interns to help develop creative and engaging content for WSU Dining Services social media channels. We're looking for students who are passionate about social media, excited about the potential to communicate to peers, and driven to create high-quality and error-free content.

As an intern, you’ll be able to help create social media content calendars, craft and schedule posts and stories, attend on-campus events, create digital media for social channels (like photo and video), report on analytics, and brainstorm campaigns for Dining. Students in this position can expect to learn about the brands of WSU, Student Affairs, and respective departments and will be expected to maintain branding in all content. Social media interns can expect to attend and cover events and programs for our departments on the evenings and weekends, and get out into our buildings to talk to people and gather content.

We're looking for someone who is able to stay up-to-date on trends and find new and exciting ways to reach student audiences at WSU. Candidates should be experienced in creating high-quality photo and video content and be able to learn and represent student life with engaging media. A successful candidate will be able to display excellent written and verbal communication skills, be able to handle multiple responsibilities at once, possess basic computer skills, and have a willingness to learn. This position can expect to submit projects for review and incorporate feedback from their supervisor into final products.

Students in this position will be expected to work a set schedule of 10-15 hours per week and balance work duties with school and other obligations outside of shift time. Students will have the chance to work collaboratively with other marketing students and professional staff. Training on specific duties and resources will be provided.

Interns may also be responsible for assisting with office duties such as answering telephones, taking messages and greeting customers, and being knowledgeable about campus and resources within student affairs.

Job Duties:

  • Create content and/or digital media (photos, video, and potentially graphics) for social media platforms including: Facebook, Twitter & Instagram, Instagram stories and potentially more.
  • Assist in managing social media platforms using an annual social media plan and set guidelines.
  • Work evenings and weekends to cover events for social media
  • Assist marketing team with brainstorming and campaign development
  • Receive feedback from supervisor and work through edits
  • Assist with material intake and distribution across campus
  • Gather feedback from peers
  • Track and analyze data from marketing and social media campaigns
  • Collaborate with fellow interns as well as graphic designers, videographers & photographers
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings and in-service as needed
  • Adhere to all department guidelines and policies
