Assistant/Associate Commissioner for Marketing and External Operations
The West Coast Conference was formed in 1952 and has evolved and grown to become a nationally recognized and competitive force in Division I intercollegiate athletics. Role Summary
The West Coast Conference (WCC) is seeking a hard-working, team-oriented and experienced professional to be the Assistant/Associate Commissioner for Marketing and External Operations. This new role will report to the commissioner and be responsible for the development and execution of marketing assets, development and management of WCC digital communication strategy, and the creation of revenue-generating efforts across all WCC initiatives (i.e., championships, awards, special events). This position collaborates closely with the Associate Commissioner for Broadcasting and Communications to implement a communications strategy across all platforms. This position may also serve as a sport administrator. The position requires a blend of sports marketing and administrative expertise, experience in strategic communications across multiple platforms, and a strategic mindset.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Marketing
- Lead all Conference marketing and brand initiatives, including marketing campaigns for men’sbasketball, women’s basketball, Olympic sports, special events and the Conference at-large.
- Manage the Conference’s corporate sponsorship program (including activation and fulfillment of sponsor benefits) and serving as a primary liaison with Van Wagner Sports and Entertainment in support of suchprogram.
- Oversee and grow Conference revenues in the areas of sponsorship, ticket sales, licensing and merchandise (including managing the licensing/merchandising program) as well as identifying new revenueopportunities.
- Assist with special events, including conference meetings and revenue-generating initiatives.
- Fan Experience strategy for all championships including sponsorship and external stakeholder fulfillment.
- Oversight of brand management from a Conference and institutional perspective.
External Operations
- Collaborate with Broadcast and Communications to develop strategic plan for external affairs and maximize exposure for the WCC.
- Oversee the social and digital strategy and execution for the Conference.
- Serve as resource to membership for strategic communications.
- Budget responsibility for Marketing and External Operations.
- On-going data-driven analysis to assist decision making.
Sport Administration
- Oversee, manage sport administration for assigned sports.
- Staff liaison responsibilities for the assigned head coaches’ groups.
- Monitors and communicates national and Conference issues.
- Monitor and enforce NCAA and WCC sport-specific policies.
Compliance
- Ensure conference operations in area of responsibility comply with NCAA and WCC policies.
Governance
- Serve as a liaison to External Affairs Cabinet, Marketing Directors.
- Provide support to the WCC governance structure, as assigned (e.g., Executive Council, Presidents’Council).
Student Athlete
- Ensure Student-Athlete experience and well-being is a priority in all Conference initiatives.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s or advanced/professional degree(s) preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in marketing, communications, public relations or related field.
- Motivated and collaborative professional with a proactive mindset and a strong passion for contributing tothe success of the WCC.
- Significant leadership experience required.
- Excellent written, interpersonal, and communication skills required.
- Knowledge of industry trends and areas of innovation.
Supervision
Manage, supervise, and develops direct reports and independent contractors.
Travel requirements
25-50% travel
Work Location
Hybrid with San Bruno, CA base.
Salary
$95,000 – $150,000 commensurate with experience.
