Summer 2025 Press/Media Relations Internship

The Position

The National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) seeks an energetic, creative and detail-oriented undergraduate or graduate intern for the summer of 2025 to work with, and learn from, our press team.

This is a full-time, non-exempt paid position of 37.5 hours per week to start June 2, 2025, and end Aug. 8, 2025. Work may be done hybrid or in-person.

 

The Organization 

The National Women’s Law Center fights for gender justice — in the courts, in public policy, and in our society — working across the issues that are central to the lives of women and girls. 

 

We use the law in all its forms to change culture and drive solutions to the gender inequity that shapes our society and to break down the barriers that harm all of us — especially women of color, LGBTQ+ people, and low-income women and families. 

 

For more than 50 years, we have been on the leading edge of every major legal and policy victory for women, and we need you with us to continue this fight.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern will:

  • Monitor media coverage of NWLC and help compile daily clips for internal distribution.
  • Work with the press team to draft media advisories, news releases, blog posts and other editorial content.
  • Help identify storytellers in our program coverage areas.
  • Assist with the development of communication materials intended for media outlets, policy holders and organization partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • Strong writing skills and an ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Experience or interest in working on gender justice issues, in a research, advocacy, or policymaking environment.
  • An interest in, or knowledge about, popular and emerging podcasts, bloggers and new media outlets.
  • Demonstrated ability to be both self-directed and work collaboratively.
  • Flexibility, creativity, and initiative, along with excellent organizational and project management skills.

 

 

Key Relations 

The intern will report to the Senior Director of Media Relations and Storytelling.

 

Compensation & Benefits

This position will be paid a rate of $17.50 per hour and is not eligible for benefits. If funding is available through the intern’s school, the payment contribution from NWLC will be adjusted accordingly.

 

Classification

This position is not included in the union-represented bargaining unit, NWLC United, affiliated with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union/IFPTE Local 70.
