Fairfax County, VA (pop. 1.2 million) has an exciting, new opportunity for an experienced and innovative technology leader to direct our nationally recognized technology program, serving as the county's Chief Information Officer (CIO). The CIO shapes the strategic direction for technology services and digital transformation, and provides leadership, direction, oversight, and guidance for the administration, planning, budgeting, operations, and activities of the Department of Information Technology (DIT). With a workforce of over 350 staff, supervising a team of IT program directors, managers, architects and commercial services, DIT provides all aspects of technology services across all technology disciplines. DIT funding levels are $155M over several operating budgets, and over $75M in the total IT Investment budget plan. Those budgets fuel new technology and digital strategic priorities enterprise-wide, county agencies and new mandates, as well as $6.5 million in grants supporting regional CIO programs. The CIO is also responsible for IT architecture enabling on-line digital service to the public in multiple venues, overseeing the development and support of ERP, WEB, CRM, and GIS platforms, and is the steward of county IT assets and access supervising the county IT/Cyber Security office.
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, transformational leader and have a strong strategic and business mind-set with a proven record of building a high performing, customer-focused IT environment and efficient IT operations that align with, drive county goals, and deliver results. The CIO will foster a public service environment that leverages the creativity and technical expertise of a team of skilled and knowledgeable staff, build on a culture of excellence and successes, and create new priorities, models, and opportunities.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a master's degree and major course work in information technology, computer science, business administration or a related field; plus ten years of increasingly responsible managerial experience in applying information technology to meet the needs of a government or business organization. The County will consider an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
- Extensive knowledge of information systems analysis, design, construction, integration, operation, security, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of process innovation, and re-engineering/redesign; Knowledge of the principles and practices of organization and management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of project management, contract management, and vendor relationships.
- Ability to foster and maintain successful customer relationships and provide quality service;
- Ability to analyze complex technical data and draw sound conclusions.
- Ability to organize, plan, and direct a variety of complex technical operations;
- Ability to present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates, County officials, and the public.
- Ability to work with senior management to identify business opportunities and achieve successes through effective employment of technology.

Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this position is $166,966.18 - $292,191.91, depending on qualifications, with a competitive benefits package. Residency is not required.
