Summer Undergraduate Intern
About the National Mining Association
The National Mining Association (NMA) seeks three undergraduate interns to join our team for Summer 2025! There has never been a more exciting time to join America’s mining industry. Our members mine the essential materials for nearly every sector of our economy – from technology and healthcare to energy, transportation, infrastructure, and national security.
The NMA is the only national trade organization that serves as the voice of the U.S. mining industry and the hundreds of thousands of American workers it employs before Congress, the federal agencies, the judiciary and the media, advocating for public policies that will help America fully and responsibly utilize its vast natural resources. We work to ensure America has secure and reliable supply chains, abundant and affordable energy, and the American-sourced materials necessary for U.S. manufacturing and economic security, all delivered under world-leading environmental, safety and labor standards.
Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the NMA has a membership of more than 250 companies and organizations involved in every aspect of mining, from producers and equipment manufacturers to service providers.
The Role
The NMA’s summer internship program offers college students the opportunity to dig deep into exciting energy and environmental issues and be part of NMA’s efforts to advocate on behalf of the mining sector through engagement with Congress and the administration. Our interns will learn about the current political and regulatory issues that affect the industry while developing a thorough understanding of the vital role that responsible mining plays in ensuring American economic competitiveness and national security.
This internship sharpens a multifaceted set of perspectives and skills in communications, government affairs, regulatory affairs, health and safety, and international issues impacting the mining industry. Interns will have the opportunity to rotate through each of NMA’s departments, including Communications and External Relations, Legal and Regulatory Affairs, Government Affairs, and the Office of the President. Each department will hone a different skill set and support the candidates’ understanding of mineral supply chains and advocacy. Interns will also have the opportunity to work on a broad range of issues and activities, including:
- Collaborating with staff on research and projects on issues of importance to the mining industry;
- Drafting memos and other correspondence to member companies and industry representatives;
- Preparing summaries of congressional hearings, meetings and events, and research;
- Attending meetings and events, congressional hearings, creating reports on proceedings, and analyzing and interpreting data;
- Supporting marketing activities, press releases, and social media strategy;
- Contributing to regulatory comments;

The internship will culminate in a research project presented to NMA staff.
