We are dedicated to shaping the future of social services by providing meaningful applied experience and professional development opportunities. Our goal is to train and empower the next generation of leaders in behavioral health, public health, and healthcare.
Professional Development Opportunities
Internship
- Paid trainee who works with the Steadman Group’s staff to gain consulting experience in behavioral health, public health, and general healthcare. An intern may be an undergraduate student, a graduate student, or an individual not tied to an educational institution.
- Interns are considered on a rolling basis for 6-month+ appointments.
- Paid opportunity (hourly or lump sum)
- Undergraduate: $19/hr
- Graduate or other: $22-24/hr
Practicum Experience
- Paid opportunity ($750) for undergraduate or graduate students to fulfill a degree requirement and gain practice-based consulting experience.
Capstone Project
- Paid opportunity ($1,000) for undergraduate or graduate students to fulfill a degree requirement by producing at least one high-quality deliverable.
Fellowship
- Paid opportunity ($559-$1,000) for senior-level candidates, including graduate, post-graduate, or post-doctoral students, to deepen behavioral health or healthcare consulting expertise.

Winter 2024/Spring 2025 Applied Experience Projects
The following are potential projects for internship, capstone, practicum, or fellows opportunities. We will also consider proposals for other areas of work or projects in line with Steadman Group's mission and priorities.
Develop an Adult Substance Use Prevention Program
This project focuses on developing an adult substance use prevention program. The initial phase involves a formal literature review, with the potential for an additional 2-4 months of work on curriculum development and message testing based on performance and organizational needs. This person will collaborate closely with the Behavioral Health Team.
Qualifications
- Must have access to online library portal for extensive literature review.
- Ability to do a literature review until saturation with previous experience.
- Must be able to do a thorough citation list using accepted citation format.
- Organized, detail-oriented.
- Able to work as part of a team but independently on the literature review.
- Desire to work on a substance use prevention project.
- Prior knowledge of substance use is helpful but not essential.
- Willingness to sign a nondisclosure agreement (NDA) and maintain confidentiality for the duration of the project.
Deliverables
- Comprehensive formal literature review using an accepted citation format.
Community-Based Approach to Marketing for Opioid Settlement Business
This project aims to develop 1-pagers for Regional Opioid Abatement Councils and Steadman’s opioid settlement lines of business, including strategic planning, evaluation, and general facilitation services. This person will collaborate closely with the Opioid Settlement Team.
Deliverables:
- 1-pagers and a brief report documenting the 1-pager development process.
- Presentation to Steadman staff summarizing project outcomes.
Standardizing Prioritization and Cost Allocation Processes for Opioid Settlement Dollars
This project aims to create a standardized process for allocating opioid settlement funds. This involves refining prioritization activities, strategy development, allocation estimates, and approval workflows. This person will collaborate closely with the Opioid Settlement Team.
Deliverables:
- A brief report or process outline summarizing the standardized approach.
- Presentation to the team detailing findings and recommendations.
Data-Driven Project:
- This open-ended project offers a data-driven intern or capstone student the opportunity to analyze provided data and develop insights. The final analysis will be designed in collaboration with Steadman staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency or basic knowledge of data analysis tools (Power BI, Excel, R, Python, Tableau).
- Interest in applying data insights to behavioral health or healthcare projects.
Deliverables:
- Cleaned data set, logic model, presentation to the Steadman team, report for the client, 1-page summary of findings and recommendations.
Grant Writing for Local Nonprofits
- This opportunity will equip the student with hands-on experience in grant writing by preparing a comprehensive grant application for a local nonprofit organization. This project will strengthen their skills in research, narrative development, and strategic planning for nonprofit funding.

A complete grant application, inclusive of:
- Organizational background
- Statement of need
- Project description
- Goals and objectives
- Outcomes
- Evaluation plan
- Sustainability plan
