JANITOR/SECURITY (POLICE)

Woonsocket Police Department

 

The City of Woonsocket, Rhode Island is conducting a search for a Janitor for the Police Department.  Working under the supervision of the Chief of Police and/or his designee, the Janitor performs a wide variety of job duties.  Specific job duties are, but not limited to the following: responsible for all general cleaning and maintenance of the Police Department building, performs cleaning services as necessary on a daily or weekly basis, supervises and maintains the Police Department building grounds, cleans and maintains all tools and equipment, assists in snow removal, and works on other general related tasks as assigned.  A high school diploma or a GED equivalent, is required, with previous custodial or janitorial work experience.

Weekly Rate:     $786.20/week to $798.18/week         [M28]

Hours of Work:     40 Hours Per Week

JOB TITLE:                           Janitor/Security (Police)

 

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:  Public Safety Department/Police Civilian Division

 

PAY GRADE/HOURS:          Grade M28 / 40-hour work week

 

UNION:                                  Local 670, RI Council 94, AFSCME, AFL-CIO

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  Under the direction of the Police Chief and/or his designee, the Janitor performs a wide variety of duties, and does related work as required.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for all general cleaning and maintenance of the building.
  • Performs cleaning services as necessary.
  • Assists in snow removal.
  • Requisitions and receives cleaning supplies and equipment, and maintains necessary inventories.
  • Generally supervises and maintains grounds.
  • Cleans and maintains all tools.
  • Daily:  Sweeps floors, empties trash receptacles, dusts, and cleans sinks and bathrooms.
  • Washes, waxes and seals floors according to prescribed procedures and schedules.
  • Dry mop and buff hallways as needed.
  • Clean office areas; vacuum carpets.
  • Cuts grass, maintains all grounds and landscaping, etc.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  A high school diploma or a GED equivalent, is required, with previous custodial or janitorial work.  Must pass security screening by Woonsocket Police Department, Court Records and BCI.

  • Must demonstrate neatness in appearance and work.
  • Certificate of good health signed by a licensed physician.
  • Ability to read basic operating instructions and write reports.
  • Demonstrate aptitude for successful completion of tasks.
  • Must be physically able to perform tasks which at times may require lifting and carrying of materials weighing as much as fifty (50) pounds or more.
