Community Organizer

We are seeking a socially and environmentally conscious person who is a strong communicator and has a passion for helping others and the community. A successful applicant will embody our organization’s core competencies of Creativity, Quality Communication, Education & Leadership of Others, Culture of Service, Relationship Building, Adaptability, and Effective Time & Project Management. This position will report directly to the Executive Director and will assist the Communications Manager with mobilizing the community and developing the organizations programs for positive social and environmental impact. Duties include building relationships and campaigns to empower community members to protect their environmental rights as it pertains to the fossil fuel industry.

 

Responsibilities

  • 40 hr/week position with a combination of in-office and remote meetings based on the status of COVID-19 and using the best precautions to protect staff and stakeholders;
  • Plan & develop organizing campaigns to drive and amplify the organization’s mission;
  • Coordinate meetings, events, and regular educational programming to community members, stakeholders, and local leaders;
  • Prepare & distribute materials at local meetings and encourage community members to engage through our email and print newsletter, website, social media, direct mailers, direct phone calls and canvassing;
  • Attend special community events and assist Communications Staff with documenting community outreach;
  • Assist the Communications Manager with developing social media and website content for events and programs;
  • Assist in recruitment of new members within the communities Protect PT services and re-engage lapsed members;
  • Meet with community members in one-on-one or coordinated meetings to listen to, build trust with, and address their needs;
  • Other tasks as needed.

 

Qualifications

  • Passionate about social and climate justice;
  • Bachelors Degree in Community Planning & Organizing, Public Relations, Social Work, Communications, or an associated major;
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and quickly learn PPT's outreach strategy as it pertains to the overall goals of the organization;
  • Experience in direct action, organizing, and leadership;
  • Proficient in Google Drive and online collaboration with excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Weekday evening and weekend availability one to two nights/weekends per month to attend events;
  • COVID-19 Vaccination.
