Environmental Outreach Summer Intern

Overview

The Environmental Outreach Summer Intern will support the Three Rivers Soil & Water Conservation District Education, Outreach and Marketing staff with coordination/implementation of a variety of conservation and education work.

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a college course curriculum such as natural resources, ag education, agri-business, sustainability, environmental science, or other related programs.  Students are encouraged to discuss this opportunity with their academic major department or advisor to determine whether credit may be granted for this internship.

 

General

The Three Rivers Soil and Water Conservation District is a political subdivision of the state governed by an eight-member Board of Directors.  The District covers the counties of Essex, King William, and King & Queen. Supervision will be provided by District Staff and the Board of Directors. This position is considered non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

 

Timeframe & Terms

The position will run from late-May through mid-August, three days per week/24 hrs. Taxes will be withheld and a W-2 will be issued.  No benefits will be provided.  This role may require some evening or weekend work.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

            Community Engagement and Workshops

  • Assist with TRSWCD community programs as needed including PowerPoint presentations, events, rain barrel workshop, homeowner outreach development, and storm drain labeling.

Education and Student Programs

  • Assists with student summer camps and conservation presentations.

Outreach and Communications

  • Participates in outreach and tabling events.
  • Supports the development of outreach and informational material for delivery through social media (Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube), and printed material.
  • Other duties may be assigned that support the mission of the TRSWCD.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license prior to employment.
  • Must be willing to submit to a background check.
  • Must be a dependent on their guardian’s health insurance policy.
  • Ability to work outside during adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to spend extended periods of time standing or walking.
  • Must be physically able to lift 50 pounds.
