Temporary Part-time Public Health Nurse

Summit County, located in Utah, is recruiting a devoted caregiver looking to make a difference in a region that takes pride in our Public Health programs. This Temporary Part-time Public Health Nurse provides working-level, professional public health nursing services to individuals, families, and population groups. Nursing actions are directed towards the goals of prevention, assessment, risk reduction, and health status improvement within Summit County. Nursing activities include, but are not limited to, direct care, collaboration with community partners, and interaction with state health department to provide interventions for individuals, families, and the community. May be designated as a coordinator of a principal service program such as Communicable Disease, Immunizations, or other programs administered by the Health Department. May hire a Public Health Nurse I or II depending on submitting qualifications and experience.

Works under the general supervision of the Nursing Director. May receive direction from a Public Health Nurse III while in training or on a project-by-project basis. SALARY 

  • Public Health Nurse I - $34.01 - $47.66/hourly see below (full job description attached)
  • Public Health Nurse II - $36.05 - $50.52/annually see job description attached

QUALIFICATIONS   

  • Minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Must possess a Registered Nurse license in the State of Utah and be in good standing
  • Must possess a valid Utah State driver's license

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS   

  • Provides education, promotes, and administers immunizations for all ages. Works with schools and childcare facilities to promote up-to-date immunizations and counsels’ parents on immunization exemptions.
  • Promotes and educates women in the community with regards to healthy lifestyles, recommended cancer screening, birth control options, and annual physical exams.
  • Uses public health surveillance/disease investigation methods in community outreach, screening, and case finding of communicable and infectious diseases that threaten the health of the community. The diseases include Tuberculosis, STIs, HIV, enteric disease, Hospital Acquired Infections, and others as determined by Utah’s Communicable Disease Rule.
  • Assess chronic disease incidence in the community. Work with other health department staff to provide education, screenings, and interventions for individuals or groups in the community.
  • Utilizes appropriate methods for interacting effectively and professionally with persons of all ages and from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial and ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, lifestyles and physical abilities.
  • Participates in Health Department and community emergency response training and drills as required by the Emergency Manager in support of public health emergency and disaster preparedness. Performs public health emergency response duties as assigned and consistent with job responsibilities.
  • Attends regular staff meetings and professional seminars/trainings to maintain current knowledge of changes and advancements in public health. Collaborates with Summit County staff, other governmental agencies, universities,  and public and private community partners to develop/implement evidence-based public health nursing practices and programs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of applicable Utah professional practice guidelines for registered professional nurses; adheres to applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards such as the Bloodborne Pathogens and Respiratory standards. Maintains compliance with all HIPAA and FERPA regulations and policies.
  • Performs related duties as requested by the Director of Nursing or the Director of the Health Department.
