Marketing & Events Intern - The Manayunk Development Corporation
The Manayunk Development Corporation, also known as Manayunk.com, has an exciting opportunity to learn from and contribute to a highly recognized Philadelphia neighborhood brand through the role of Marketing & Events Intern. This position will report to the Marketing Coordinator and the Director of Events. They will handle a variety of tasks in the marketing, public relations, event planning, and social media sectors. This position is suited for a student who is working toward a degree in marketing, advertising, communication, or hospitality. The internship program takes on one student intern per season/school semester.
EVENT PLANNING: Assist with all winter/spring events including Founders Philly Freeze Out and StrEAT Food Festival. The intern will help with pre-planning, vendor/sponsor outreach, and day-of event logistics.
MARKETING: Assist with updates to the Manayunk.com website with relevant event information. Contribute to the winter issue of the Manayunk Magazine, the MNYK Blog, and the MNYK Newsletter by writing and editing content.
PUBLIC RELATIONS: Assist with press outreach and event calendar listings for all Manayunk events. Manage content and design of monthly newsletters through the Constant Contact email system to keep our merchants and visitors informed on news in the district. Assist Director of Events at press shoots and news interviews as needed.
SOCIAL MEDIA: Assist Marketing Coordinator and Social Media Manager with all social media accounts including Facebook, Threads, Instagram, and TikTok. Create unique content and schedule posts following social media schedules and campaigns for each event. Oversee ongoing social media campaigns and help develop new content.
Intern Responsibilities include:
- Use of Canva and Constant Contact
- Assisting in gathering content for the weekly newsletter
- Strong written communication skills with a keen sense of grammar and spelling
- Contribution of innovative ideas for new projects
- Communication with local businesses and vendors
- Conducting social media market research
Preferred qualifications
- Prior experience in marketing, event planning, and/or social media marketing
- Prior writing and/or content creation experience
The intern MUST:
- be a self-starter who works well in collaborative settings.
- be a creative individual who is able to work in a creative team environment.
- have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- have an outgoing personality and be able to interact with business owners and event vendors.
- have great attention to detail and organization skills are desired.
- be comfortable commuting to the office and working on-site.
This is an in-person internship at our office located in Philadelphia. The Marketing & Events Intern will work approximately 10 hours per week in addition to events.
