Compensation: $18/hr

Term: late-January/early-February - mid-May 2025, flexible

Expectation: 10 - 15 hours per week

Work Location: Hybrid work environment, with at least 2 days / week in office, 1717 Pennsylvania Ave NW

Description:

Interns at the Trust for the National Mall support the implementation of the Trust's goals and strategies by serving in one of the following focus areas: Events Management, Philanthropic Systems and Training, or Social Fundraising. Interns will gain an understanding of the complex operations of a nonprofit and will have the opportunity to participate in diverse projects while learning and gaining skills to support their career aspirations. While the focus areas give an overview of projects, incumbents may support work from other focus areas as interested and available.

Intern Focus Areas:

  1. Events Management: The Events Team works closely with all divisions at the Trust to execute our events and programs. As part of this team, the Events Management Intern will work collaboratively across teams to assist in event planning and execution. Spring events can include donor receptions, public education programs, small concerts, and our annual signature event, America's Ball for the Mall.
    1. Responsibilities: researching event opportunities, supporting data entry and cleanup in Salesforce, creating event briefings, providing on the ground support at events, and assisting in event-related communications including invitations, website postings, and social media.
  2. Philanthropic Systems and Training: The Philanthropic Systems and Training Intern will support the Philanthropy Team with resources that empower staff to effectively navigate the Salesforce CRM and other tools. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in developing user guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and engaging training materials while developing an understanding of fundraising systems.
    1. Responsibilities: create and update user-friendly guides and FAQs, support the development of SOPs, assist with the creation of training materials, gather user feedback to identify opportunities for improvement, and collaborate with Philanthropy Team members to ensure resources are accurate and accessible.
  3. Social Fundraising: The Social Fundraising Intern will support the Philanthropy Team's efforts to engage volunteer fundraisers by creating and implementing a successful social fundraising strategy for our Adopt a Cherry Tree campaign. This internship provides invaluable hands-on experience in peer-to-peer fundraising and digital engagement while inspiring support to preserve the iconic Cherry Trees on the National Mall.
    1. Responsibilities: research and develop a framework for successful peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns, collaborate on crafting journey maps and guided resources for volunteer fundraisers, draft engaging social media content that promotes social giving, assist with stewardship strategies to recognize and retain volunteer fundraisers, and identify campaign performance metrics for ongoing assessment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current college (undergraduate or graduate) student or within 1 year of graduating.
  • Able to commit at least 10 hours / week during normal office hours (Monday - Friday). Occasional weekend or evening availability may be required.
  • Able to work in person at the Trust for the National Mall office at least 2 days per week.
  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, take initiative, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Strong connection to the Trust for the National Mall mission, our National Parks, and your preferred focus area.
