Project & Communications Coordinator
Independent Contractor Position for nonprofit conservation organization
Contract period: Feb. 15, 2025 through Dec. 31, 2025 .
Rate of Pay: $25 to $28/hour depending on experience. Number of hours variable from 10-15 hours/week in off-season to 30-40 hrs/week May-September. Some travel by car required. Mileage will be reimbursed at IRS rate.
Possibility for renewal for following year.

Independent contractor will be responsible for own office space, vehicle, computer and phone. HFWA email will be issued and required for HFWA work. Assigned tasks to be completed at a location of contractor’s choosing and on contractor’s own schedule. However, tasks will require spending a significant amount of time in Island Park.
Contractor will not receive direct supervision or extensive instructions on how work is to be done. Leeway will be given to Contractor to plan and implement volunteer projects and events, with board approval. Contractor will submit weekly task reports, briefly summarizing tasks accomplished, and hours spent by task, as well as major accomplishments and outcomes. Contractor will be expected to advise and counsel how best to adapt and modify work, tasks and communications to best achieve HFWA intended outcomes. Contractor will be expected to bill HFWA monthly.
Desirable skills and experience: On the ground experience and expertise in managing field projects, logistics, and volunteers. Experience in working on native wildland improvements or similar projects, such as agriculture, fence building/removal, and outdoor labor. Ability to work outside in native landscapes, doing repetitive physical labor, and hiking over uneven ground. Experience event planning, outreach, and coordination with state, federal, NGO, and private partners. Familiarity with basic principles of public relations and events management; proficiency in digital communication platforms, social media management, and content creation; flexibility and creativity; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently; interest in working with people and in working outdoors at times.
Scope of work to include some or all of the following:
- Email communications to members through digital marketing platform. Create content for social media, ads and printed materials. Post and update content on website.
- Manage on-the-ground volunteer projects and community events in Island Park area, including habitat restoration projects, fence removals; wildlife friendly fencing; and bear safety education and outreach.
- Plan and manage all aspects of large (300 people) Wildlife Festival event in June 2025 and other events and community festivals.
- Recruit and manage part-time workers and/or interns as needed.
