PR/Marketing Intern


 

TIME FRAME: This is a short term, seasonal position.

Duration: February 3 - May 16, 2025, 20 hours per week 

Compensation: $12/hour


 

Location: Canal Place Office and Fairgrounds, New Orleans


 

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Jazz Fest Marketing Intern position provides learning and professional development opportunities for someone interested in pursuing marketing, advertising & promotional opportunities in the music industry.  This position will work with the Marketing/Advertising/Promotions Department fulfilling various administrative, marketing & promotional duties for the 2025 Jazz Fest. The intern will work with the Festival Promotions Associate Producer, the Design & Internet Director, the Press & Advertising Director and the Marketing & Media Manager.


 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in advertising, promotions and marketing operations.
  • Help develop and maintain the social media calendar to help ensure content is developed and approved in a timely manner.
  • Help monitor social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok) for trends, engaging opportunities, and execution of best practices.
  • Help research, identify and monitor key industry influencers and niche influencers on social media.
  • Research social media marketing trends and marketing needs for a purpose of exploring ideas for improvement.
  • Assist with copywriting and proofreading for social media, e-newsletters, press releases, radio spots and other materials, as needed.
  • Help collect data and update the department’s database system.
  • Assist with in-office clerical duties, maintaining files and documents.
  • Assist in communicating with other Festival Departments and Vendors.
  • Assist with the implementation of various promotions, traditional advertising and digital advertising campaigns, as needed.

     

Qualifications: 

  • Must be a Junior or Senior pursuing their undergraduate, or graduate degree.
  • A willingness and flexibility to learn and adapt to foster the growth and success of the Festival.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms in a professional perspective.
  • Familiarity with social listening and analysis 
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with a team to draft short-form and long-form content for social platforms.
  • Ability to take initiative, employ good judgment and manage projects from beginning to end.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to anticipate next steps or needs.
  • Able to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient computer skills include Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Entry level knowledge of graphic design & editing and willingness to learn.
  • Able to work approximately 20 hours per week and on weekends during the Festival.

     

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Utilize the Absentee Request Form for accurate reporting of absenteeism to the Human Resources Office.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive issues.
  • Attend and complete any required training.
  • Surrender any document, computer program, design, or intellectual property created for the Jazz Festival to the Festival at the end of each production year or upon request.
  • Complete all required Feedback Forms and Final Reports.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
