Media and Communications Intern
Summary:
Learn about nonprofit marketing and communications strategies with hands-on experience in all aspects of the ASLC marketing and communications program. This position will be focused on photography, videography, editing, archiving, and social media content creation, but will offer a large overview of being a part of the ASLC Marketing and Communications team, including writing and graphic design opportunities.
Under the guidance of the Marketing and Communications Team, the Intern will be trained and expected to perform the following duties. Interns must be able to think creatively and strategically while assisting with traditional marketing and communications responsibilities.
Education/Training Requirements:
Applicants must be college graduates or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with a background or coursework in a related field.
Candidates must submit a portfolio of their work (video, photography, social media content, writing sample, graphic designs or a combination of all) with their application and resume for full consideration.
Essential Duties:
1. Fulfill general photography and videography assignments by shooting with professional DSLR/mirrorless cameras, editing the content using tools like Lightroom and Photoshop, and archiving for future use.
2. Assist with social media content creation, editing (including mobile app editing), and distribution for ASLC platforms.
3. Willingness to take initiative and motivation to seek new storytelling opportunities.
4. Assist with ongoing historical archiving and editing for ASLC media.
5. Collaborate on developing seasonal marketing campaigns, including graphic designs, social media posts, and advertising.
6. Develop blog content by gathering materials, conducting interviews, and crafting stories.
7. Update and maintain reports focused on digital analytics for social media.
8. Contribute to writing and proofreading for publications, campaigns, and website updates.
9. Represent ASLC within the community through outreach, event promotion, and other misc. opportunities.
10. Occasionally assists with sales and guest services functions, including special events/facility rentals, group tours, and support with community interface.
11. Fosters good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff members by promoting a positive attitude, good will, cooperation and providing high standards of service.
12. Complies with all Alaska SeaLife Center policies, procedures and programs.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to speak effectively and to be comfortable meeting new people when interfacing with guests. Ability to work independently with excellent organizational and time management skills. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs (such as Lightroom and Photoshop) and video editing software is highly preferred.
