Senior Materials and Analytical Engineer (Early Career)

About our group:

The Materials Science Lab at Seagate Fremont Research Center is a leader in chemical analysis, thin film characterization, defect identification, and KPIV/mechanism understanding for media R&D. The lab is integral to the product development team and frequently works with other labs worldwide, manufacturing centers, and other development centers to understand advance materials and performance issues, provide solution paths, in-depth analysis, and develop novel applications for lab instrumentation. The lab is well equipped with analytical and materials analysis instrumentation: TOF-SIMS, XPS, SEM/EDX, FIB/TEM, AFM, Raman, FTIR, GD-OES, LC/MS, GC/MS, ICP-MS, GPC.

 

About the role - you will:

You will provide in-depth materials analysis and analytical expertise during your collaboration with various media design and process groups at Seagate.

 

Job function includes:

  • Running and maintaining instrumentation
  • Coordinating/prepping samples for analysis
  • Collecting data, analyzing and interpreting results
  • Writing reports
  • Presenting your findings in meetings

 

About you:

  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Highly self-motivated
  • Comfortable with instrumentation and hands-on work
  • Able to work independently and collaborate across functional teams
  • Proven multi-tasking and time management skills

 

Your experience includes:

  • Hands-on work with multiple characterization techniques.
  • Experience in handling organics, solvents, solutions and/or high vacuum instruments.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret broad spectrum of technical information is a benefit.
  • Available to start Spring 2025
  • Master’s or PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $80,766.00 - $150,711.00. The individual salary is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
