News Reporting or Photojournalism Intern

rmaThe Enquirer offers reporting and photojournalism internships for 10 weeks, starting in June and ending in August. Reporting interns are placed on one of several teams: breaking news; politics, government and business; arts and life; trending news; sports or enterprise and investigations.

Program details:

  • Duration: 40 hours/week, 10 weeks (Dates TBD).
  • Application Deadline: January 10, 2025.
  • Pay: $18/hour

What you’ll do:

  • Work as a full-time journalist as part of a team in our newsroom.
  • Learn how to craft compelling headlines, create social media content and tell stories in nontraditional ways.
  • Participate in training led by veteran journalists on topics such as interviewing, writing on deadline, ethics, source development and open records.
  • Leave the internship with clips and local news experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Work 40 hours per week, with some night and weekend work depending on role.
  • Pitch ideas in addition to taking assignments from editors.
  • Complete daily assignments as well as work on longer-term enterprise stories.
  • Create content – stories, photo galleries, videos and more – that is fair and error-free.
  • Collaborate with others in the newsroom.

Requirements:

  • Enrolled in or recently graduated from a journalism program (junior year or beyond preferred).
  • Strong writing, research, and fact-checking skills.
  • Familiarity with AP style.
  • Critical thinking, adaptability, and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Availability for some evening and weekend work.
