Marketing & Communications Assistant

Help set the stage for all children to imagine and learn through play as the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine’s (CMTM) Marketing & Communications Assistant!

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Marketing & Communications Assistant reports to the Director of Marketing & Communications and assists and supports the strategic communications and marketing plan. 

The Marketing & Communications Assistant is part of the Advancement Team. In addition to this position, the Advancement Team consists of the Executive Director, Director of Marketing & Communications, Development Director, Development Manager, Development Associate, and Marketing & Communications Associate. 

POSITION PURPOSE 

The Marketing & Communications Assistant contributes to the organization through marketing and communication initiatives that are aligned with CMTM’s needs and strategic plan. Responsibilities include branding, graphic and publication design, data entry and analysis, generating reports, maintaining data accuracy, and promoting and assisting at events to boost participation in CMTM’s programs and initiatives. The role enhances philanthropic support, highlights community partnerships, and plays a vital part in conveying the impact of the Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine.

POSITION SUMMARY 

50% - Branding, Graphic, and Publication Design

  • Event Graphic and Publication Design: Create and design signage, promotional materials, social media graphics, one-sheets, reports, and other event-related materials.
  • Program Graphic and Publication Design: Create and develop signage, promotional materials, social media graphics, one-sheets, reports, and other program-related materials.
  • General Organizational Graphic and Publication Design: Create and design reports, member postcards, solicitation letters, and other promotional materials for overall organizational needs.
  • Signage and Wayfinding Creation, Maintenance, and Updates: Update and maintain building-wide signage and wayfinding systems.

30% - Data Analytics, Web Support, and Digital Marketing

  • Data Entry and Event/Play Session Link Generation: Post events and museum visits from CMTM’s CRM database to the website (kitetails.org).
  • Web Support and Content Updates: Maintain and update content across CMTM’s digital platforms.
  • Mailing List Monitoring and Auditing: Regularly review and audit mailing lists to ensure accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Data Analysis for Marketing Campaigns: Analyze marketing data to track key performance metrics and campaign effectiveness.
  • Digital Marketing Efforts: Optimize online listings and use analytics to guide targeted digital outreach.
  • Social Media and Online Engagement: Update and monitor data health and content across social media platforms and online business listings.

20% - Event Support and Other Responsibilities

  • Event Support and Promotion: Assist with the planning, promotion, and execution of events to ensure successful participation and engagement.
  • Support for Strategic Plan and Goals: Contribute to the achievement of CMTM’s Strategic Plan and goals through specific actions identified by the team and supervisor.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional tasks as needed, including weekly floor checks and additional staff support when required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Education and/or Experience: A combination of education and experience supporting marketing and communications efforts in a professional capacity.
  • Organizational and Communication Skills: Excellent organizational, written, oral communication, and keyboarding skills.
  • Proficiency in Digital Tools: Adobe Suite proficiency and experience with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and social media platforms are required.
  • Data Management and Analysis: Prior experience in data management or data analysis is a plus.
  • Nonprofit and Mission-Driven Experience: Prior experience in the nonprofit sector or with mission-driven organizations is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Ability to lift 30+ lbs (infrequently)
  • The noise level in the workplace is usually quiet to moderate.

SCHEDULE

24 hours per week; (days and hours to be mutually determined)

COMPENSATION

This is an hourly, non-exempt position.

$19.19/hour plus $5,000 annual benefit pay, which can be used toward a cafeteria plan of benefits, including health insurance (two options, HSA available), dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, short and long-term disability, critical illness insurance, accident insurance, 403B (retirement) plan contributions, and/or HSA contributions. Benefit pay may also be taken as pay in lieu of benefits.

  • staff events such as outings, parties, and lunches

CMTM has an equitable system of pay that offers a base rate based on position and longevity pay increases over time. This system is designed for equity and as such we do not have the ability to negotiate the compensation listed above.
